Brumbies Rugby ends Andy Friend’s contract

The CA Technologies Brumbies have ended the contract of Head Coach Andy Friend effective immediately.

Former assistant Coach Tony Rea has been appointed as Head Coach for the rest of the 2011 Super Rugby season.

The rest of the current coaching structure, including Stephen Larkham, Justin Harrison and Marco Caputo remains in place.

“After considering all the issues and effectiveness of our current coaching arrangement, I made a decision that in order for us to be competitive in 2011 we had to make changes to our coaching structure,” Fagan said.

“Andy Friend is one of the most genuine, hard working individuals I have ever worked with but in the best interests of our supporters, our members and our organisation that change had to be made.”

The larkhams have done more for local rugby than everyone else in Canberra combined. Friend seems a good bloke but he had two years of a good roster and produced no success at all.

Good decision before this season is a right off as well.

Bernie’s arrival as Assistant coach was Friend’s death knell. The ACT Rugby board is comprised largely of Larkham’s family members & old drinking buddies. They may have installed this Rea muppet as temporary coach but it’s pretty obvious who’s really calling the shots at Griffith Oval these days.

I just bought season tickets last week – I hope this works . . .
