Brumbies season in miniature. Waratahs 41, Brumbies 7.

Foxsports have the ugly news of Waratah triumph over the ACT’s Brumbies.

The game was a reflection of the whole season.

Ambition beyond ability, good work undermined by momentary lapses, humiliation, and then a little glimmer of hope just at the end.

What kind of pre-professional dream world are you living in?

If the tickets were free your argument might have legs. The team is run as a business so the only loyalty involved is the team’s duty to give its supporters something worth turning up for. It costs a lot of money to watch a season of rugby, so the team had better uphold its side of the bargain. I’m generally not too bothered if the Brumbies lose as long as they play a good game of rugby. With the odd exception this year (and to a certain extent last year) we didn’t even get that.

I’m undecided but leaning heavily towards not renewing my membership, and if so I won’t be back until they’ve sorted their s*** out. It has nothing to do with bandwagon riding and everything to do with getting value for money.

The team itself might be a business, but being a supporter isn’t. Being a true fan is about supporting your team through good times and bad, i.e. loyalty. As has been stated by other posters here, it doesn’t cost anything to say you support the Brumbies. Yes, it costs money to watch games, get foxtel etc. and if you don’t feel that you are getting value for money, its your right not to spend it, no problem.

But what waiting for Godot is talking about is having a dummy spit and destroying/burning all of his Brumbies merchandise. Then some crazy rant about the NSW Labor Party. So I stand by my earlier comments, He doesn’t understand the meaning of loyalty and commitment and the brumbies are better off without supporters like him.

Since when has it cost anyone anything to support the Brums? If you can’t or won’t shell out to attend home games, catch it on fox. If you’re too cheap for that, head down to a Vikings club, All Bar or something similar and watch it on the big screen with a few mates. This value for money argument is just a mask for the fickle Canberran sports follower.

When did not paying for something equate to supporting it?

Foxtel is also not free, you may have noticed.

I didn’t suggest not paying for something meant supporting it. I was simply saying there are ways to make it cheap/free, so the value for money argument falls flat.

The season summed up…. move along, nothing to see here – bring on 2012.

So much promise was shown and a crap year turned turned even worse when the spoiled brats took over and everything went belly up. Bring it on Jake, hoepfully he’ll be able to coach without CEO or senior players group hampering.

Bye bye membership, bye bye Brumbies number plates, bye bye Brumbies jersey into the Vinnies clothing bin, bye bye Brumbies caps into the incinerator. The end of a 15 year love affair with a football team. In this case breaking up was very easy to do. Good riddance to bad rubbish.

If all sporting competitions were filled with over dramatic fairweather fans such as yourself there would need to be quite a few stadiums torn down.

The Brumbies are only one of 4 teams to have won the competition. Since 2004 they’ve narrowly missed out on the finals a number of times, and had a few underperforming seasons in there.

Teams go through bad periods. It won’t always be great. There are many once championship teams throughout the world that have gone a long time without winning a cup.

But one day they will be on the rise again, but that might take a while. It might not.

There are a number of teams in Super Rugby who have never been near the finals and their fans still stick by them.

In the meatime you don’t throw down a tantrum and abandon your support until its time to jump back on the bandwagon.

As a long time Brumbies supporter and member I do demand more from the club. I expect them to be putting in the hard yards. I expect a lot more from the CEO. With the playing roster they had this year they should have done a hell of a lot better, but they didn’t. Why they didn’t isn’t something anyone here would be privvy to, but hopefully they’re getting it sorted. Being a supporter doesn’t mean you have to accept the mostly crap standard they displayed this year, but it does mean you don’t give up on them by burning your merch and handing in your plates. THAT is a band wagon supporter, irrespective of what anyone claims.

A new head coach has taken over (or is about to?). A broom has gone through the playing roster and we’ve recruited some brilliant young talent like Joseph Tomane, Siliva Siliva, Sam Carter and Ian Prior. Next year excites me a bit. I don’t expect immeadiate results, but I think the playing style will be similar to the Brumbies of a few years ago.

I read this too and thought it odd – so to make up for a poor season they’re not getting on the piss and having a big day at various pubs and bars. In other words, acting like responsible adults. Stay classy guys…

Thank god they got rid of their coach early in the season. He was obviously the problem with the team’s performance….. 😉

Thoroughly Smashed12:00 pm 20 Jun 11

Whoops, I appear to have made a bit of a mess with the quote button there.

+1 Thank God it’s over.

I won’t be burning my merchandise, plates or membership just yet – maybe I’m a sucker for punishment, but it’d feel unfaithful cheering against the Brums – or for someone else for that matter.

I’m ticked with the Brums for allowing medicority to thrive – but I am also excited to see what changes next year brings. Will be even more excited if Fagan gets rissoled – if the coaches and players can be held accountable, why not him?

Also read this morning the players are “punishing” themselves for a bad season by not having a mad monday. Doesn’t change the fact they played like crap, and doesn’t make me feel any better about having to watch it…

One bad season? Try 6 or 7 bad seasons in a row. Ever since Nucifora was forced out. Each year we get media hype that this year the team will win the comp and it never happens.

A typical Canberra supporter. The same attitude led to Raiders crowds dwindling, Canberran’s only back winners and that is sad.
A true supporter hangs in during the good times and the bad. When the times are bad we recount the stories of the times when they were good.

The Brumbies don’t need supporters like you WfG, good riddance to bad rubbish.
Oh and don’t forget to hand in your membership, your number plates, your jersey and your cap. We would hate for the Brumbies to be associated with someone like you.

Didn’t you bother to read my post? I already have done all those things. And I won’t be going back.

If I buy a washing powder and my clothes are still dirty after using it, do you expect me to keep buying it? Similarly, if I keep taking out membership of a football team and they are not delivering the goods, do you expect me to keep shelling out money year after year?

This attitude that you must stick by a team no matter what is one of the stupidest and most pig-ignorant ideas ever. It fosters a loser’s mentality and mediocrity. I bet you are also one of the Labor “true believers” like the idiots who still voted for the party at the last NSW election.

Haha, wow.

Hopefully, ending in a debacle like that will remind those remaining at the Brumbies not to repeat the stupidity of this season. Hopefully, Jake White will go through the place like a dose of salts and clean out all the rubbish.

wow, did we make a tackle in that footage?

Thank God it’s over.
