Brumbies squeaked by the Reds 13 against 12

Foxsports tells the tale of the Brumbies very disappointing one point loss to the Queensland Reds.

The only try scored was from a pointless midfield kick and after that neither side of losers was able to do anything much worth watching.

Real rugby teams are going to make mincemeat of both these sides.

A sloppy game and sub par performance from many who claim Wallabies jerseys. A bit of effort in attack could have exploited the overlaps that kept appearing, but a poor pass was normally the option taken.
At least the Brumbies walked away with competition points from what look like more of a trial game than a quality rugby performance. A lot more needs to be done before we can stand up to top NZ or SA teams. Glad we had a soft one against the Reds first up.

I hope to never see a worse game of Rugby than this. A truly miserable night in every respect.

Can’t just blame the ref either, neither team seemed to want the ball, prefering to kick it away at the first available opportunity. We expected this from the running-averse Jesse Mogg but on Saturday night it was endemic.

I felt the game would have been a far better spectacle if Steve Walsh spent less time talking to players & more time showing them yellow cards.

He blew 11 penalties in the first 20mins of the game. What a game killer.

Watched it on Foxtel, in a lounge room where the air was warmer, the beer was cheaper, the food much better and the toilets less disgusting. Not a great game from either team (the Brumbies’ handling was bit dodgy at times and they kicked too soon), but an atrocious refereeing performance from Steve Walsh. Taking players out in the air, without the ball, is ok, but talking too much in the lineout is not. Etc.
It was bizarre and his decisions were a lottery where the Reds had a few more tickets at critical times.

Last night was an ordinary game from both sides, not helped by some strange whistle blowing. Canberra Stadium lived up to it’s winter evening best, and was bitterly cold.

i’m not a regular fan/follower but went along last night on a friend’s multi-game pass which is located with other regulars and season members. i won’t pretend to provide some detailed game analysis/insight however i can say there was a healthy level of resigned unhappiness around me throughout the game.
