Brumbies wave goodbye to Giteau

RugbyHeaven reports that the Brumbies have given up completely on retaining the services of homegrown superstar Matt Giteau beyond the upcoming season:

Brumbies chief executive Andrew Fagan said Giteau had made it known before the end of last year’s Super 14 that he was likely to head overseas after the World Cup this year.

Knowing the dynamic inside-back’s desire and the huge interest from at least four French clubs, Fagan said there were no strong attempts to keep him in Australia.

Instead the Brumbies shored up their 10-12 stocks by keeping Matt Toomua and Christian Lealiifano, both targeted by the Melbourne Rebels, and recruiting Queanbeyan young gun Robbie Coleman.

”For me it’s a non-issue but as much as we’d love him to stay in Australia, we’ve known that it was more than likely to happen,” he said. ”None of this comes as a surprise and that’s why we’ve recruited the way we have. I think [Giteau signing] will happen sooner rather than later and that’s a good thing from our perspective.”

I hope wherever he goes he’s happier than he’s appeared to be for the last couple of years.

For many of us (well, at least for me), this would be the least consequential news item of 2011 so far.

I can’t understand why people still pay any attention to the giant money and spin driven machine that is modern professional sport. I have long since stopped handing over cash to operations that employ blokes who do things like sticking their dicks in dogs mouths, having drunken group sex with young girls, and all of the other unutterably repugnant things that have surfaced in the media over the past few years.

Furthermore, it seems to me that the integrity of the outcomes of a lot of matches in many sports could reasonably be called into question. I suspect that little is left to chance in a lot of professional sporting matches.

One of my sons plays junior basketball, and all things considered, I’d rather watch that any day.

Haha, the news was obviously consequential enough to send you on your little rant, though.

Far be it for me to say, as someone has said it far more eloquently in the past:

Don’t let the door hit you on the arse on the way out…

Hopefully this means no more painful ACTTAB ads?

Pretty please??

Now if only the Wallabies would do the same

His form wasn’t great last season and he is in danger of losing his Wallabies spot. So probably good timing.

I don’t follow Rugby that closely, so as well as being a damn fine player am I right to think Giteau is a bit of prima donna who doesn’t really know what he wants in life. Aside from a lot of coin, of course. That much seems clear. And good luck to him on that front, I’d love to get paid countless dollars for playing a sport I thought I loved.

Oh, will his mummy be moving to France too?
