The Centenary folks are giving notice that the times tickets to their Bubbly Bars are now available:

“I’ve tasted the tapas and the Centenary bubbly, and believe me at $15 for four tastes and a glass this is a fantastic bargain,” Robyn said.

“But basically this is more about being able to say you were there, to join in some of the lovely craziness we have in store on 11 March. It’s just a lot of fun and it’s once in a lifetime—so grab a ticket and make sure you get a photo on the day.”

Robyn says the tapas will give the day a distinctly Canberran flavour, having been designed by local chef Jamie McGahey and inspired by some of Canberra’s finest local produce.

The Centenary bubbly is a specially created sparkling wine made by local winemakers, Pankhurst Wines, from chardonnay and pinot noir grapes grown by Canberra District growers.

“The back stories about how the food has all been sourced locally, the menu devised by a local chef, and the sparkling wine locally produced give the Longest Bubbly Bars in the World something very special, and very Canberra: I hope thousands of Canberrans and visitors will lap up this unique opportunity to taste a celebration on the eve of Canberra’s 100th birthday,” Robyn said.

I’m apparently signed up for this next Monday evening.

Will the Slayer shirt be out of place?

Unfortunately I was slow to purchase tickets, would love to hear from anyone who would like to sell a spare Bubbly Bar ticket to the 4:45 long stay session!

Bring back the food and wine frolic of the late eighties where the bogan trash wheeled in their cases of piss and drank themselves into oblivion and then indulged in plenty of biffo to the live music in the background.Oh and let’s bring back the birdman rally to boot.

I hear ya- the punch up in front of the stage at the ’88 Food & Wine frolic was brilliant- all set to the soundtrack provided by the Enormous Horns.

and fireworks on Monday night??? seems a waste when we have skyfire just 5 days later

The need for “lovely craziness’ is not strong in me.

*Organised* lovely craziness is the problem, methinks.

In my day we used to make our own, with string, banjos and old pieces of cellophane.

But when she says ‘four tastes and a glass’, does she mean you get four glasses for $15 and get to keep the glass? Because then my enthusiasm would be positively bubbling.

This event isn’t catered directly to me. What a waste of time and energy.

If only they’d schedule an event where I could sit at a computer and complain, because this is my chief interest and sole contribution to society.

Robin won’t pay for hers of course.

As a family with 3 kids not sure the ‘Longest Bubbly Bar in the World’
and ‘specially created Centenary bubbly’ is something to write home about.

Is that the best Robyn and the team can do?

Are there any family events on that aren’t an annual Canberra event?

As a kid i can remember my parents taking the family to Birdman Rally and it was awesome!
Why did it stop?

“But basically this is more about being able to say you were there…”

This statement really paints a picture. I can already see the collective of hipsters and naval-gazers flooding Instagram with grainy images of champagne flutes and tasting plates. Pass.
