The ABC has the upsetting news that the Bulleen Boomers have obliterated the Canberra Capitals 103-78 in Melbourne to take the 2011 WNBL crown.

Nothing hurt Canberra more than its dismal field-goal percentage; the defending champs shot a combined 29-of-77 from the floor (38 per cent) and hit just one of 16 shots from downtown.

Next season…

No excuses, the Caps were belted – but the refs totally ruined the game. Completely disagreed with the ABC commentators who said it was a great showcase for women’s basketball.

Bulleen shot 35 free throws and there were nearly 50 fouls called in total – more than 1 a minute!

Let ’em play refs!

did you see the stats they put up during halftime – caps have had a shocking run of fouls called against them in the games against bulleen. not sure whether it’s the refs or bulleen good at drawing fouls against the caps? christ there were some ridiculous fouls given away by the caps too though – bibby pretty much removed herself from the game with 2 wasted fouls including that awful tech on cabbage (deliberate misspell) in the second quarter.

it was a terrible game to watch. the caps just didn’t look like their hearts were in it from the start.
