I like the idea of a compromise so that we don’t actually need to learn about 100 candidates and order them appropriately in order to register a vote, but a simple [1] is a pathetic way of voting. Plenty of people want to preference their party votes but personally I think it’s extremely important to take every step that reminds people that we vote for individuals and that once elected they are free to change their party membership, cross the floor, start their own party or do whatever they think is right.

Totally agree. I always number the 1 to 100 to avoid my preferences going where I don’t want them – which is a pain and not actually meaningful because I have no idea who at least 50 of the candidates are! Does anyone know how we can get it changed to allow all boxes above the line to be numbered?

No suprise. Given how much it costs to register a car in Canberra I can barely fathom what the registration costs for a Bullet Train are.
