Burn a snag! But how?

With such glorious weather we decided to do a barbeque by Lake Ginninderra just off Ginninderra drive.

We arrived to find that of the two sets of barbeques there that only one half of one was working! This was occupied by a group of young folk who remained in situ for a further 90 minutes!

We finally got our turn, during which time many turned up and left disappointed.

Given that there are numerous radio ads at the moment encouraging people to get out and celebrate Australia day (“leave the filing, burn a snag”), I can’t help thinking that maybe the money would be better spent fixing up the facilities to enable us to “burn a snag” without waiting in queue for 90 minutes because only 25% of the machines actually work!

The Cotter has plenty of working bbqs that are cleaned on a regular basis…it’s a nice setting by the river & even has a great kids playground.

I wouldn’t be too sure about the effectiveness of Canberra Connect – we haven’t had ANY street lights for 2 months during the time when break-ins are most prevalent.

aaah! playground! not payground!

the bbq’s at kambah woolshed, the adventure payground, lake tuggeranong, pine island are all fine. not messed up by youths, they work. must be a tuggeranong thing…

On second thoughts, they can stay out of order! That’s gross! where is the best place to get a gas barbie? Any one had a bad experience with any particular make or model?

Just buy a round three legged one from anywhere like K-Mart, Big-W. Less than $50. Add your own gas cylinder. Great value and so portable as the legs unscrew and so can transport easily.

Take a portable gas barbie is by far the best way.

VY’s on the money here. We take a round three-legged jobbie with a 4.5 kg gas bottle. Produces enough heat to quickly turn the snags black if I’m not careful. And as Pandy eluded, I know that nobody has excreted their bodily fluids on it in the previous evening.

Avoid the public barbeques like the plague…
Drunken teens (and twenty-somethings) really do go to town on them.

And your average Canberran forgets/neglects to clean their backyard barbeque until someone makes an issue of it..

Public barbecues are notorious for slowly boiling your meat – take a coleman twin burner or similar.

I reckon if you report them on the Canberra Connect website they’ll stand a good chance of being fixed.

Like take your own? Doh!

I never trust public BBQ: Too many stories of pissing and stuff on ’em.
