An 18-year-old Wanniassa man had his vehicle seized and faces a serious drink-drive charge after an incident in Tuggeranong on Saturday night (December 29).

Around 10.34pm, ACT Policing General Duties officers were on a routine patrol when they witnessed a silver Holden Statesman sedan performing a sustained burnout at the 7-Eleven petrol station at the Wanniassa shops.

When police approached the vehicle, the driver jumped from the car and ran. A short time later police apprehended the driver, who was then given a roadside screening test. The test returned a positive result.

The driver was taken into custody and later returned a Prescribed Concentration of Alcohol (PCA) reading of 0.130. As the holder of a probationary driver’s licence, he was subject to a zero alcohol content.

The driver’s licence was immediately suspended and he will be summonsed to face court at a later date. His car also was seized by police and will be impounded for 90 days.

Under section 5 of the Road Transport (Safety and Traffic Management) Act 1999, police may seize vehicles for offences of street racing, speed trials, burnouts and menacing driving. Vehicles can be seized for up to 90 days for a first offence and may be seized and forfeited to the Territory for a second offence if so ordered by the court.

18 and already on a probationary license ?? so he’s already been caught before……

When does his car get impounded and crushed to a cube ?

I’d pay money to be able to witness this car being crushed- I know it’s not on the cards as yet, but this could be an avenue of revenue raising I’d be happy to assist with. I wonder how many tickets the Govt could sell to an event of this kind?

I’d buy a season ticket. IT’d be a great way to spend an hour an Saturday arvo.

Demo Derby.

Get all the impounded cars, whack in a basic roll cage, sell tickets for a drive in one, and let them loose on each other. Drive it ’till you destroy it.

That I would pay money for…

Being an 18 year old from Wanniassa he was most likely on both a provisional and a probational licence.

A probationary license is just P-plates, Genie-us.

A PROVISIONAL license is also known as your p-plates. Aka a red license

A PROBATIONARY license is what you’re issued after you’ve already lost your license. Aka a blue license.

Try google next time. Or the link provided in comment #14

Happy to be corrected. Thanks.

Probationary license means P-Plater

Do you have a driver’s license? I hope not.

Dr Koresh needs to prescribe something for foot in mouth!

Wrong, Genie-Arse.

Also hilariously, the link goes to a page headlined “Draivers licenses”.

My apologies to Genie who may potentially see my above post as a criticism of them. Not my intention, Genies comments about a Probationary license being spot-on.

No apology needed… I knew where you were going with your post.

I never noticed the misspelling on the PDF link 🙂

No, there is a difference.

Provisional Licences
Provisional licences (red in colour) are issued for a period of 3 years following the successful completion of a practical driving or riding test. The minimum age for acquiring a Provisional licence 17 years. If you pass the practical assessment in an Automatic vehicle then your licence will be endorsed with an ‘A’ condition, allowing you to drive automatic vehicles only for the first 12 months of your Provisional licence. All holders of a Provisional licence are subject to a blood or breath alcohol concentration of zero.

Probationary Licences
Probationary Licences (blue in colour) are issued to drivers or riders returning to driving after a court-imposed cancellation. The licensee will be required to hold a Probationary licence for 12 months before progressing to the previous licence type held. Holders of a Probationary licence are subject to a blood or breath alcohol concentration of zero. If 2 or more demerit points are incurred by the licensee the Probationary licence will be cancelled.

No…that is a Provisional License.

A Probationary License is issued after a court imposed period of suspension.

I’m sure the confiscation of his car and the impending suspension of his licence will curtail any further criminal acts by this young man……………………………………..Yeah right!!

I believe they are also known as “P” plates, lots of 18 year olds have them…

Actually, disregard that – I was under the mistaken impression that there was no such thing as a probationary licence… 🙂

Turns out that’s what you get once you return from having a *cancelled* licence (presumably as opposed to a suspended one). So who knows what this idiot has done before.

Not sure that there’s any such thing as a probationary licence – a “restricted licence” can be given to those with a suspended licence under certain conditions. In this case, I suspect whoever wrote the media belief is under the mistaken impression that the P plate represents probationary, instead of provisional.

A better option would be to recycle his car into a Ford Festiva or a beep-beep Barina. Really add a bit of insult to the injury.

The silver lining is that he’s now in line to donate a Holden Statesman to the community should he again decide to act like an arsemuppet in front of police.

So some other bogan can get a sweet deal on the state-o at the police auctions and start the cycle all over again.

Sh*t for brains.

Natural selection hasn’t done us too many favours with this ‘tard.

At one stage of human development, a bloke this stupid would’ve starved to death or been eaten by a predator at an early age. Unfortunately, technological advances mean that such critters now survive and prosper, and we’re on a downhill slope to the scenario portrayed in Idiocracy.

+1 on this.

A Holden Statesman, well aren’t the bogans stepping up in the world!

not only caught by the cops but also likely caught by the cameras at the 7-eleven as well.

what a winner…..NOT
