Burst Water Main in Belconnen

G’day folks,

Eastern Valley Way is currently awash from a burst water main or some such at the intersection with College St. Drivers of small cars might want to consider raising the periscope when navigating through the torrents.

A solitary ACTEW chap in a ute arrived as I was waiting at the lights, alighted from said ute and had a poke around.

Looks like it might be a major reconstruction as the water appeared to be bubbling away through much of the tip of the central traffic island around the base of the traffic light.

No wonder when I came to teeth brushing this morning, I found all my tap water was brown. I live just up from there.

I was caught at the lights at 8.20 and found the water views much more enjoyable than the usual queues.

One fellow I felt sorry for was a boy about 13 in school uniform trying to work out how to get across the intersection. Everywhere he looked the water was at least 10 cm and up to 30 cm deep.

Oh and a blast for the drivers of a couple of 4WDs who decided it was a good chance to wash off nearby cars with their wake. Idiots abound everywhere.

was very “aesthetic” there this morning with the lovely babbling brook, mist rising off it into the chilly Canberra morning air – ah, it’s a lovely time of year!

Came back later to see 4 ACTEW guys gathered round with a police officer, all having a lovely chat while nothing happenedd. Police offcier started to lean on the traffic light but must have decided that would look to unprofessional before standing up ‘properly’. All it needed was 5 shovels for them lean on and the picture would have been perfect.
