Buses disrupted by mechanics strike

The ABC are warning that the industrial action by ACTION mechanics is having flow on effects to today’s services after Deane’s busline had to help out with sporting events over the weekend:

“What we would try and ask people to do, and we apologise unreservedly for the fact that there will be some disruptions for people, is get down to the bus stop a little bit earlier to perhaps try and catch the earlier bus if you can,” he said.

“That might negate some of the problems as we get into the peak hour services and I guess just be patient, again we do apologise.”

Mr Roncon says peak hour and school services will not be affected.

“What we try to do is maintain the high patronised routes like our route services, our 200’s and 300’s and of course our school services always get priority as well,” he said.

I’m assuming they have a backlog of “minor” items needing doing, like oil changes… oil left a few km overdue is bad, but won’t stop the bus from being in service?

Correct, Sunday’s the workshops will fix buses with minor issues such as lights, loose interior panels, broken seats, etc. as well as fixing buses essential for Monday morning such as Articulated buses that are used on busy school runs and expresso services

Umm so there is a day where the buses are fixed, yet everyone who works it is on over time? You guys are stupid and don’t give me that, we want time with our family bs, retail have it so much harder then you, cops, firefighters, nurses, doctors and defence staff have it so much worse then you, they don’t tend to pick when they work, they don’t complain and have a hissy fit because $80,000 a year isn’t enough, most of them would enjoy the pay rise.

Are you so far out of touch with reality that you think you can justify not going to work because you get paid a salary that includes working on the weekend? Most bus drivers are lucky there isn’t a fitness test, the fat lazy porkers I see driving the buses wouldn’t be able to get a job elsewhere.

Suck it up.

You don’t deserve a pay rise for the dismal service you provide.

Anyone happen to know what Roncon is paid a year to ‘manage’ this debacle, and does he ever catch a bus?

Yeah I am sure the Education Dept would love to put on an extra half an hour of teacher supervision in the morning so that parents can catch the earlier bus!!

I’ve never managed a burnout in a bus. Had a few understeers, which are scary and overseers in artics which are fun.

The orange buses are nearly all over 20 years old and the green buses tend to have suspension and other software related glitches so there are a lot of buses off the road for minor stuff. Even if the driver logs it for something very minor at the very least a mechanic has to drive it from the workshop to the shed.

ACTION is short of useable buses because they can’t get anymore radios for all the new ones sitting at Woden depot.

I doubt they do oil changes on weekends, but they do need to fix buses that break down on Friday night, Saturday and Sunday.

Too many burnouts, huh?

The tag steer buses are already too long to have bike racks fitted.

So what’s the deal with these new 6-wheeler buses and no bike racks?

Be buggered it wont affect the 300 series runs. They booted us off at Tuggers this morning to give the bus to a school run. This was after I waited half an hour for a bus with a rack on it & then the first bus that they used at Tuggers was a tag steer with no rack.

I have been extremely satisfied using Action for the last few years but it has become unreliable for me if I want to take my bike now.

Ahh well, I guess I will have to harden up & just do the 60k commute anyway.

Am I the only one wondering why the mechanics need to do overtime at all? Its hardly cost efficient to be doing an oil change on a Sunday.
