If you find yourself trying to catch a bus around midday on Wednesday (19 December) you might have to wait a few hours until one shows up.
Transport Canberra bus services will stop running for around four hours on Wednesday between 10 am and 2 pm to allow for all bus drivers to attend a Transport Workers Union meeting.
According to Transport Canberra, the meeting, which is authorised by the ACT Government, is “a necessary step” towards finalising a new enterprise bargaining agreement.
Executive director for Transport Canberra Operations Judith Sturman said the meeting was scheduled outside of peak travel times to minimise inconvenience to customers.
“Limited services will be available between 9:30 am – 10 am and between 2 pm – 2:30 pm, as all drivers transition from their on-road shifts to attend the meeting,” Ms Sturman said.
“All services will then return to commence as normal before the peak period from 2:30 pm.”
No school services will be affected and all special needs transport and the flexible bus service will operate as per usual during this time.
Ms Sturman is urging customers to plan their trip ahead to avoid inconvenience.
“We thank the Canberra community for their cooperation and understanding, and we acknowledge the disruption to services this has to allow for this to occur,” she said.
“We will continue to ensure the community is kept informed in regards to this disruption.”
