NSW Police inform us that they’ve caught an Illawarra boy 115kmph over his L-plated limit on the Federal Highway near Sutton:

About 5.35am today officers attached to the Monaro Highway Patrol were conducting patrols along the Federal Highway near Sutton when they saw a north bound red Hyosung motorcycle allegedly travelling at high speed.

A lidar check of the bike allegedly revealed the rider was travelling at 195km/h in a 110km/h.

The male rider was stopped by police near the Yass River a short time later. It was established that the man held a learner’s motorcycle licence, which restricts riders to a speed limit of 80km/h.

The 24-year-old Woonona man was arrested at the scene and taken to Queanbeyan Police Station where he was charged with driving at a speed dangerous to the public and fail to display L plates as required.

He had his learner licence suspended on the spot and will appear at Queanbeyan Local Court on Monday 25 October.

You know what, someone should build a speedway or a racing track for petrol heads to try out their fast vehicles in a closed legal environment to get it out of their system. It is still dangerous but only for them and no one else. I think the closest track is next to Goulburn but we need one here too. Man if only I had a few million bucks I’d do it, and probably make the ca$h back within a month.

Good point, some one did though. It could have had a circuit added to it by now to accommodate people who like corners as well. Ask Uncle Jon all about it, I’m sure he has a great story to tell.

A suitable punishment would be for him to be made to watch his bike being crushed.

You could get two new baked bean tins of of that!

I guess seeing the offender’s last name is not Grimm, he can’t get it converted to just a caution 🙂

um, it’s a Hyosung. Being crushed would make it interesting.

It’s a Hyosung – crushing it would probably not alter its value very much either.

See, that would NEVER happen in a juristiction that had speed cameras… er…

Good to see a police patrol picking up a truly excessive/dangerous speed and taking the danger off the road ASAP, rather than sending out a speeding invoice to the mum and dad of the smeared youth two weeks later.

Did he explain that he ‘felt’ he was doing a ‘reasonable’ speed for that road and that ‘who are you to tell me what stupid speed limit I should drive at … speeding doesn’t cause accidents … blah blah blah … revenue raising … blah blah blah’?

He tried to, but then the Cops replied “don’t ya know speed kills, mmmmkkkkaaaayyy.”

Absolutely Jim. He deemed his speed to be safe and within his skill level, and that’s where the discussion should end. The cops should be doffing their caps with a lot of ‘begging your pardon, squire’.

I wouldn’t have thought a Hyosung can do 195km/h
