But everyone uses the printer for personal use!

The ABC reports that the Liberals Zed Seselja is in some hot water after a new staff member used a Legislative Assembly photocopier to print his flyers.

“It was a new staff member and they printed something in error. The material wasn’t used,” he said.

“I understand it was a few dollars worth of material and it’s an error that I’ve acknowledged. It was an error that shouldn’t have happened and I’ve put in place steps to ensure that this sort of thing doesn’t happen again.”

Chief Minister Katy Gallagher says she accepts the explanation.

Surely the correct procedure is to use a printing allowance to overpay a printer who will reciprocate with gifts at a later stage?

As much as it pains me to say it, at least his staffers aren’t out spraypainting anti-Howard graffiti down at Ainslie shops.

+1 on that.

Storm in a teacup anyone?

Don’t tell me – Zed has misused a teacup as well!

When will this corruption end!

$10 says they’ll be flyers for a student political club. This used to happen all the time, but you’re not supposed to get caught.

Normally it’s done in the private office of an MP or Senator though – eg: Gary Humphries electorate office in civic. Of course he’s probably not in the mood to do any favors for young/student liberals given internal party politics these days.

Pretty silly to do it on a photocopier that was presumably in an open area of the legislative assembly though – open or public enough that a labor staffer presumably noticed what was going on at least.

Johnboy, you have spelled it out correctly.A shame that the politicians dont even know their own processes!

Not quite as wasteful as $432m to be blown on a new building for the government…

Ignore Mysteryman. He just swoops in with stupid statements, in defence of of the Liberal opposition any time somebody questions their actions (or lack thereof).

Nah, hes saying if thats the *only* thing the government did that wasted money, then we’d have an awesome government

Pretty much, on the scale of government corruption and waste from 0 to 10 this fits in around a -5. There is much bigger waste that deserves attention.

Let me just fix that:

“It was a new staff member and they didn’t get the job off the printer quick enough. The material wasn’t used because someone from another party took it,” he said.

Sounds a little more plausible…

And we have a winner!

I read it as “not only did we use the printer supplies, we then wasted that money totally by not even using the printing”.

God, if the worst of the waste by those in power (and those who those in power employ) was a couple of dollars worth of printing supplies then the world would be a much better place…

Resisting a rant on waste in goverments of all colours …

Funny how it is always a ‘new staff member’ or a ‘junior staffer’…

The more experienced staffers know how not to get caught.
