Buying guitar strings in Civic

I’ve been meaning to ask for ages… Does anyone know if there’s anywhere in Civic that sells guitar strings? The second hand CD store in the interchange used to but don’t anymore…

Would be so handy if there was rather than having to go out to Phillip or Mitchell every time.

Thanks RiotACTers

Bought a pack of D’Addario strings for my electric today at Landspeed. You don’t get service with a smile, but very reasonably priced. Landspeed had five different gauges, but only electric. JB only had acoustic strings (nylon and steel).

Limited range at both places, but nice that there are at least a couple of places where one might get a set of guitar strings in Civic. I agree with Scribbler that buying from overseas is a good way to ensure that it get harder to buy local.

Thanks, PantsMan, for the tip about cheap strings at the School of Music.

Buying off the net in the US is cheaper, as flagged in earlier posts, but is a surefire way to decimate the local musical instrument industry in this country. Pretty soon you’ll have no choice but to buy from o’seas as there’ll be no local music stores left..

In Civic you’ll get overnight delivery through http://www.stringcentre.com.au Not as cheap as the US sites, but a lot quicker and free delivery.

And if you’re a bass player, just buy the string you use . The other ones are only there for show. You’re not fooling anyone.

Jeez, that’s harsh.

They’re going cheap at the Music School.

+1 on the responses in this thread. I’ll be bulk buying my strings off the net from now on. Cheers everyone.

Don’t ‘go out’ every time you need new strings. Find a cheap supplier overseas and buy a good amount of stock (this keeps shipping down as well).

Hear, hear. You’ll get them for about 1/3 to 1/4 the price we pay here.

There used to a time all the music shops had them, shame really these days.

they could use the other three and get their money’s worth before buying a brand new one.

I wholeheartedly agree. I ‘usually’ buy boxes of 10 or 20 sets online but what happens is i don’t keep track – changing strings as they break and occasionally restring the whole guitar and all of a sudden i’ve got none left and it’s always an emergency!! Then it’s off to Phillip, Mitchell or Fyshwick.. grrr…. so frustrating when there’s a whole city centre 50 metres from my office!

Anyway – i can confirm that Landspeed does in fact sell strings. A basic collection but convenient nonetheless. Electric, acoustic and nylon stinrgs in basic a range gauges. Acoustic steel string for $16. Even a basic range of accessories – i couldn’t find my capo last night so I impulse bought one then.

Thats a great relief for string related emergencies!!

Thanks RiotACT peeps!

What Civic needs is for Palings to come back.

Finding musical whatever in Civic is nigh on impossible. Betta Music in Phillip is the one stop shop, but in Phillip unfortunately.

I’ll be interested in responses to the OP’s question. I couldn’t find strings in the city and ended up ordering online. Actually it just occurred to me that Landspeed might be a likely source, and if not then I might suggest it to them.

Oh yeah, sorry… Landspeed usually do have a small range of acoustic and electric strings (behind the service counter). Not sure about JB’s though.

Try Landspeed Records, that is the only place I can think of in Civic.

Not anymore. The couple of places that used to either closed down or as you said don’t stock them.

You should have a look on ebay. The prices are usually better and if you can find a good deal buy a couple of sets so you have spares.

JB Hifi usually do, but they have a limited range.
