The Spy Report brings us the news that very long time serving WIN News presenter Peter Leonard finally said goodnight for the last time last night, to be replaced by Jessica Good as anchor.

We now have some Youtube footage of WIN’s goodbye to Peter. Anyone with the Stateline footage?

Thanks to green_frogs_go_pop for the heads up and to canbc123 for posting the WIN footage.

Grooaaaaaaaaaaaannnnnnnnnnnn… thanks for the youtube GFGP, but that clip is such a wankfest. I’m embarrassed for them.

Stay classy Canberra!

ROFL Sammy! Where the hell did that come from?!

Shopped Canberra celebrities FTW! We need moar of it. The original even looks shopped though – Jessica looks weird.

sammy, i don’t think i’ll ever be able to look at jessica the same way ever again

That new news banner with Phil Small and Jessica Good is freaky. I don’t know why. Maybe it’s because Jessica bares a striking resemblence to the martian in that terrible comedy “Mars Attacks” who infiltrates the White House.

OH MY GOD, the martians are coming. First they’ll take over Win TV Canberra.. and then… who knows. Turn the Carillon into a homing beacon to call reinforcement. Ok, I should stop watching TV1.

The Stateline thing was, as always, excellent. Nice to see someone stick with Canberra rather than stampeding for the bright lights (jessica Rowe, Melissa Doyle et al).

Just in case anyone was wondering what Jessica Good would look like, if she was the love-child of Peter Leonard.

I did like the blooper reel at the end ‘Good Afternews..afternoon’ and other on screen bloopers.

Of course, the story wouldn’t be complete without SGS’s take on things.

I love the bit at the end, where he takes the liberty of wishing Peter well in his retirement on behalf of ‘former 2CA colleague John Kerr’, because he ‘can sometimes forget these things’.

Priceless.

The Stateline tribute was fitting.

Leonard has a long association with the ABC, including his current regular appearances on 666 afternoons with David Kilby.

At one point I despised Peter Leonard. I really don’t like his newsreading voice, and his manner always seemed cheesy and over-the-top.

But I have warmed to him a lot since listening to him on 666 with DK.

The ABC made a rather nice gesture in having him host the first half of Stateline, right up to where he announced “and now a story about…me”. For some reason I found that hilarious – probably because it reminded me of Kent Brockman’s line “the winner of tonight’s big lottery is…me. Can we get a shot of me?”.

It’s sad – he’s been a Canberra media institution for decades.
