In our Alphabetical tour of Canberra I give you the letter C!

Next week is D, that’s Deakin, Dickson, Downer, Duffy, and Dunlop, so if you live near any of them get snapping and send them in to suburbs@the-riotact.com

UPDATED: A late entry from Bubzie came in for Calwell.

For Curtin Simon sent in these:

Who’d have thought Charnwood would get the loving in our Suburbs series ahead of so many others? Thumper sent in these:

UPDATED: Miranda has added a shot of Chapmon taken from Coolamon ridge.

I might have to ask for a delay on the letter H.

Due to taking too many photos of Mini Mael, the camera’s back at Fuji getting fixed.

Yep, Wiki is not without its faults. But as you say, it’s fantastic as a starting point for general info on a topic.

I have been enjoying the alphabetical suburb tour on RiotACT and will be sure to contribute when we eventually get to my suburb letter.

Though, comments like S4anta’s sometimes make me think Riot is closer to an episode of that TV series Grumpy Old Men. The one where the Grumpsters can’t say anything positive about anything at all.

Not having a pop at wikipedia per se, I use it as a starting reference point and have made the odd edit to it myself.

But as the disgraceful hatchet job on Jon Stanhope showed it’s a very fragile source of information,

I fear the wiki fiddlers are going to get their hearts broken one day.

Anyway I would definitely say a better place to send your photo’s of suburbs beginning with D is to suburbs@the-riotact.com

Yes, and the superior collaborative site that you are contributing to would be???

wikipedia is as helpful as a wet fart on your scrambled eggs.

Put not too much trust in Jimbo Wales.

Canberra has a Wikipedia article for each of its suburbs. Yarralumla is the pick and has been a Wikipedia featured article.

If you have something positive to add or simply a good representative photo of a suburb, why not upload it to Wikipedia.

Canberra also has a group of Wikipedians that work collaboratively on improving articles related to Canberra.

bah, i forgot all about it! doh.

not to mention PCB oils from long dead transformers used in HF transmission – contaminated soil too 🙂

I think they had a diesel genny in there too – 12 cylinder – I remeber reading that somehere on the internet so it must be true.

I have zoom – its all good.

Looking at that first pic just makes me pine those wonderful days before self government when the bureaucrats and engineers running the ACT did such a great job on getting all those nastly little streams beautifully cleaned up with wonderful smooth concrete channels.

Don’t go in there though as the reason it is fenced off is because it was used to store toxic chemcials for a period of time after the war.

Damn – I was going to take an art/wank night exposure of that old RAFF transmission base on Crace near the open part of the GDE

i love that little shop in Charnwood, always has grog, but every other shelf is empty.
