It’s that time of year again when all men are encouraged to throw out their razors and grow their moustaches.

Movember is back and it’s time to raise awareness of men’s health issues as part of Movember celebrations.

This year’s local festivities were today launched today by John Hargreaves MLA at King O’Malley’s Irish Pub, Civic.

Local celebrities Richard Luton (Richard Luton Properties), Jared Bidwell (Silver Medallist Rower), Joel Monaghan (Canberra Raider) and Lachlan Kennedy ( WIN Television’s Sports Anchor) will this year be waving the Movember flag in an effort to raise money for the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia (PCFA) and beyondblue: the national depression initiative.

Peter Barclay, Managing Director of King O’Malley’s Irish Pub, has been hosting Movember events in Canberra for 4 years and has seen the event go from strength to strength.

“King O’Malley’s is proud to be the home of Movember in Canberra” Barclay said.

“Every year it is wonderful to see the support the Canberra community throws behind this fun event.

“In six years of existence, Movember has grown from 30 Mo Bros in its first year to last year having 125,000 Mo Bro’s & Sista’s in Australia alone, raising more than $8million.

“I encourage everyone to support this great cause. To join or donate is easy and worthwhile, just visit the Movember website and let the Mo’s flow”.

Movember will culminate with its annual night of nights Gala Parte, to be held Thursday, 26 November at King O’Malley’s Irish Pub, Civic.

To join or support this great cause Mo Bro’s and Mo Sista’s should to jump on to www.au.movember.com to get involved or donate.

Oh dear. King O’Malleys.

Please tell me they’ve actually donated money to the cause.

Can the EDs please organise a RA feature article on the 30 Nov with pics of all the moustachios.

I’ll be growing a mo again — Movember #3 for me. I think it’s a great cause.

Last year I decided to grow it for a whole year instead of just Movember. Was fun. I had a table of drunken tradies yell MERV! MERV! after me as I was leaving a pub in Matraville a while back. I took it as a compliment of the highest order 🙂

I think this year I’ll only grow it for a month or two, though. Getting food in it all the time got really annoying really quickly.

Tips? Electric razor makes it way less annoying/time consuming to maintain. I made the switch from Gilette to Phillips earlier this year and haven’t looked back

I’m in. It’s for a great cause.

Are we sure that the extra apostrophes are absolutely necessary?

I can’t grow a mo to save myself, but i’ve signed up to have a go. Any tips on enhancing the look?
