It seems every school needs a performing arts centre these days (I think that’s luvvie-speak for a theatre) and today Andrew Barr has announced that Calwell now has one too.
The Calwell High Performing Arts Centre has been designed to provide flexible
performance options for dance, theatre and music. The Centre has can seat up to
350 and includes wheelchair access. One area of seats can be removed to provide a
larger performance space.Other features include:
— a sprung floor for dance performances
— a foyer which opens onto a paved courtyard where audiences can gather during intervals. The foyer has a podium for announcements and a kitchenette
— a large storage space in the backstage area with vehicle access for unloading sets and props
— professional standard lighting and sound controlled from a number of points as well as from rear control rooms and
— a hearing loop for the seating area.
At $4.7 million one hopes it’s put to good use.
