ACT Policing is seeking witnesses after a man struck a security guard with a bottle while robbing a liquor store in Calwell last night (Sunday, October 7).

The man entered the BWS Liquor in Calwell around 9pm, took two bottles of liquor from the shelves and left the store.

When the security guard approached the man and asked him to return to pay for the items, the offender attacked the guard, striking him on the head with a full bottle of liquor.

The manager of a nearby store came to the guard’s aid and wrestled with the offender, who managed to escape and flee on foot.

Police attended a short time later and searched the area but were unable to locate the offender.

The man is described as Caucasian, about 180cm (5’11”) tall, with medium to solid build, with brown hair. He was wearing a dark jacket, dark-coloured Canterbury track pants with a thick white stripe down the side, and dark-coloured shoes.

The security guard received a cut to his forehead and was conveyed to The Canberra Hospital for treatment.
Police are urging anyone who may have seen this offender fleeing the Calwell shops in the direction of the loading bay after the incident (around 9pm), or may have any other information which could assist the investigation, to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or go to the website at www.act.crimestoppers.com.au.

Yes, I can’t wait for this bloke to appear in court to be told by a magistrate how “good” his criminal record is.

He needs to be caught first for this to happen.
Calwell, full of rednecks, V8 ute drivers that enjoy nothing better than harassing you at the shopping centre car park, doing endless burnouts at every major intersection, ripping up the Calwell High playing fields with their cars. Not to mention this unlicensed dirt bike riders ripping up as much playing field turf as possible. They even bring their children to the oval to learn how to ride a motorcycle. I pointed out to a father with his son, that ripping up the oval wasn’t going to help the kids that use it as a sport ground. Of course his answer was to tell me to go a get f%#ked and then he asked me where I lived so he could teach me a lesson.
Sure I’ve called to cops but they are always too busy, when they do show it’s always too late.
What the suburb and the rest of Tuggeranong needs is a greater police presence, especially on Friday and Saturday night.
p.s. I know that Calwell is full of decent people.

3 or 4 police cars spread over the whole of Tuggeranong doesn’t go very far, unfortunately.

Bashing someone on the head with a fill bottle of grog is a savage thing to do. A distant relative of mine was involved in an altercation in a bar in south-east asia many years ago. As he tried to get out of the place another bloke hit him over the head with a bottle of grog and killed him.

I hope the security man is OK, and that the cops find this scumbag quickly.

where was dogman?
