Can an AGS Number be Recycled?

I’m hoping the RA brains trust can answer a question for me.

I retired from the APS about 5 years (hence the moniker) and am currently in receipt of a Comsuper pension.

I have recently applied for a casual APS job and have been told I need to have an AGS number.

Am I able to re-use my old AGS number?

Thanks

All employees, including those in the current PSSap superannuation scheme, must retain the same AGSN for their entire APS career irrespective of whether they have had breaks in service or not.
Agencies should check with the APSC to see if a new employee has a previous AGSN prior to allocating them a new one.

If you’re 54-11, then I’m assuming you’re in the CSS… not sure that lurk applies to the PSS (or those of us CSS members who have advanced retirement ages but I mean to check that out before I click over to 55!!!!).

I’ve temped in the APS since leaving it, adn although I always resurrect my perserved CSS membership, I always get a new AGS number. It’s generated by HR when they create you. I’ve had about 8 of the bloody things over the years.

If you’ve taken 54-11, I don’t think you’ll be resurecting that super? You’ll probably want to set up something new and seperate… get advice, cos as you know, the wrong decision could be horrible.

Not if there’s been a break in service. I once transferred between two Commonwealth agencies without a break but when I started in the new agency I discovered they had generated a new AGS number for me. This had real implications for my PSS super because they would’ve created a new account. I rang personnel and was told that there was nothing they could do because “the system” would not allow it! I told them in no uncertain terms that I didn’t care about their system but they were to resurrect my old AGS number and ditch the new one. I finally got this resolved, but it was a hassle. Something to think about if you transfer between agencies.

I left the APS for 9 years and tried to reactivate my old AGS number when I rejoined – no go, I’m afraid.

Pretty much not.

I’ve been in the APS five times, including two of them concurrently and I have a collection of numbers. If you tell the super people, they’ll link your accounts.

I’m not an authority, but based on the below page, I would say not:

If you were a PSSAP member then I believe you would be able to re-use the old number.
