Can Canberra get the linux conf 2013?

In 2005 Canberra saw possibly its greatest ever nerdgasm with the linuxconf.au rocking the ANU.

Now the Canberra Linux Users Group has announced they’re bidding to bring it back to Canberra for the Centenary!

Just a heads up to anyone interested in being part of a Canberra bid
to host LCA in 2013, the year of Canberra’s centenary. A team has
started to form, has had a meeting and early preliminary work has
commenced on putting a bid together.

To prevent spamming the CLUG list, there’s a separate mailing list for
anyone interested in being part of the bid process. Right now it’s all
about a bid that would be evaluated in about a year’s time. If the bid
is successful, there will then be a need to firm up a team to actually
run the thing.

So, if you’re interested and you haven’t done so already, please
subscribe yourself to the bid list and become involved:

lca2013@lists.clug.org.au

It’s hard to think of a better way to celebrate Canberra’s inner nerd than a national Linux conference.

In case you don’t know, Linux is an operating system which rivals Windows. It has nothing to do with monorails or any other form of public transport. I do wish people would do a bit of research before posting and not clog up this site with silly, irrelevant nonsense which has nothing to do with the subject being discussed.

I actually run Ubuntu 10.10 on both my laptop and desktop box. I thought posting my comments in computer programming code was a bit of a hint! However, after your rude comments, I am now switching back to MS Windows.

Linux rocks

I’ll vote for it to be held elsewhere just to get some time away from Linux users.

In case you don’t know, that was a Simpsons reference.

I do wish people would do a bit of research before posting and not clog up this site with silly indignation.

I think maybe TV star was suggesting that no other town would want this conference anyway, and if they did, they would have a name like Ogdenville, North Haverbrook, or Brockway.

If he didn’t, and genuinely thought the OP was talking about ’80s style mass transit systems, then it was a *really* funny post.

Gentlemen, start growing your neck beards.

With a user id like “Outta Control” you sound like you want to be in control…
Does this software come with its own security blanket or am I thinking of “Linus”?

Maybe they can figure out a way to get Ubuntu to work properly. I wiped it and reinstalled Windows xp when it (Ubuntu) wouldn’t allow me to download third party software or set up a PPoE connection to my then ISP (Grapevine via TransACT).

Ubuntu runs third party software just fine as long as it comes either in a deb package or with source code.

how much mac software can you run on windows?

It’s not one of those type of conferences, TVStar 😛

Next year it will be in Brisbane: http://lca2011.linux.org.au/ while this year it was in New Zealand – substitute alternate years to see the details of a particular LCA (as far back as 2004).
