Can Fraser get a Williams v. Williams, Baldie v. Baldie battle?

Troy Williams

When I saw the ABC headline “Williams nominates for Fraser” I thought to myself “I wonder how long it will take for all the stickers on road signs to finally dissolve this time“.

Imagine my surprise to discover they weren’t talking about the Liberals’ Troy Williams but rather the ABC’s go to man on constitutional matters, academic George Williams (and he wants to run for Labor of course).

We can only hope Troy runs again for the Liberals.

The spectacle of two baldies on the ballot with the same name will possibly be the most interesting thing in Canberra for a federal election.

Between them, these two comments express the essence of the problem. If the current Assembly is filled with those you consider inadequate for the task, why is that? In a representative democracy there is no excuse for that. Get out there and put your hand up. I have more respect for my political opponents than for the disinterested and/or apathetic. If the available choices are poor, go give it a shot yourself. Trying and failing is better than not bothering at all.

Anyone who wants to have a say in any party’s pre-selection process just has to join the party. For a few dollars and attending three meetings in one year (or 6 over two years) you could all have had a vote in the current ALP pre-selection. Talking is great, as long as it leads to action.

Hey guys

Not this time around sadly, I’m not even in the ACT and off to run the ADIA

Thanks for the comments all the same.

Troy

A letter to the editor in today’s CT answered my ‘is there anyone else’ question. It seems Mike Hettinger and Michael Pilbrow have also nominated. Is either of these two the pre-planned compromise deal, or does Nick Martin really have the running on this? Which one is the individual identified by Thumper?

At any rate, they really should let us all vote on the preselection. Since we live in a safe ALP seat the real election will just be a formality.

An an ALP supporter I hope that Troy Williams stands again; he did the ALP a great service by spending what must have been a lot of Liberal Party funds spamming northern Canberra with photos of himself in a doomed bid to take one of the safest Labor seats in the country shortly before the ACT election, where the Liberals actually had some hope of victory.

What’s the point?

This is Canberra. A brain dead slug would win if it were aligned to the ALP.

This is about right. Clearly people here think the Stanhope Local Council is the best option for Canberra.

Interesting you said the best option. Clearly Stanhope is the best option, even if not a good one. Or surely your not suggesting Zed and the gang??? Although it might be entertaining to see Jeremy and little Alistair running the place

According to Crikey (channeling Vickie Dunne), John Hargreaves offered to surrender his seat in the Assembly to Mick Gentleman in return for Left faction support for his wife’s bid for the Canberra seat (definitely a carrot and stick approach).

On a side note, I saw a bumper sticker on coast last weekend with the familiar Kevin07 format, but now saying NOKevin by 11.
They’re dreaming of course. Amusing though.

Thumper – you previously said a guinea pig, and now you say a brain dead slug. Is there something you know about the anointed ones that we don’t?

ROTFLMAO!

+1
Totally agree. But the problem is that they don’t think, they just do what they are told by their Labor masters. Beats the crap outta me!

As a former ALP member (resigned in disgust at some of the more recent actions, mainly at a Federal level), I’m a little annoyed at having an in-box flooded with propaganda from various people wanting to win the pre-selection.
I’d hoped the local ALP office would be more efficient at removing former members, especially since their annual renewal date is 1 April.

Troy is now CEO of the Australian Dental Industry Association, and so moving in Sydney circles.
But previously on some employment\recruitment gig in Cairns iirc.

Maybe George Williams won’t have a shot at all…

I thought pretty much evert pre-selection was sorted out that way.

So who else from the ALP has nominated for the two seats? I can’t believe the contest in Fraser is between Nick Martin and Goerge Williams only. Wasn’t David Peebles in there as well – or is he quietly waiting in the wings as some special solution to the mock left-right fight in Fraser? What about the other locals who may (or may not) have nominated? And is it only one nominee in Canberra?

I know, but surely this could tempt him!

On the other hand Labor Williams has yet to win the nomination.

Troy already said that he has moved on and won’t be chucking in.

I assumed it was a recently deceased recidivist of riotact fame back from the dead.
