Can just 8 Brumbies win the Super14?

By johnboy 14 March 2010 9

The good news for the home team last night was that the forwards totally dominated the Springbok laden Sharks pack to the point that Super Prop Ben Alexander scored two tries to give the home side a 24-22 win.

Oh, and Matt Giteau kicked quite well.

That’s pretty much it for good news. The Brumbies media release is struggling to muster enthusiasm for the win.

The lack of four try bonus competition points means they’ve essentially dropped a match compared to the genuine front runners.

So who should face the firing squad to encourage the others in the back line?

Following the 2010 Sharks game which Brumby back should be shot to encourage the others?

Brumbies players seem to have the good sense to leave the club before they start misbehaving.

Bud White….I think you are confusing sports. You’ve just described a Rugby League player.

I taught my dog to fetch a ball. He urinates in public and dry humps anything that moves too.

Which Brumby do you think I should name him after?

I think we should remember the sharks are a quality team with quite a few Boks in the side. They actually beat the Tahs the week before, it was just the ref couldn’t do his job properly and therefore got the sack.
However, I would like to see Matt Toomua given a run at 10, with Giteau at outside centre. I still think Giteau is a better 12 than he is a 10.

They keep winning games….not bad for a team that really hasn’t clicked into top gear yet this season. It’ll come. Patience grasshopper.

You forgot:
4. Stand at the back of the ruck, looking left and right, waiting until the defence is set so any advantage of the quick ball the forwards are getting is properly negated.

Valentine is a complete joke. At the breakdown, he does one of three things:
1. Gets stuck in the bottom of the ruck
2. Goes on a glory run by himself and gets isolated.
or 3. Doesn’t turn up and can be seen dozing out with the rest of the backs.
I’m no real Phibbs fan, but surely he must be a better choice.

Giteau had a marginally better game, didn’t go running sideways as much. He still lacks vision at 10. Kept giving it to Mortlock even though he was very heavily marked and was getting smashed. The backs have no options in attack at the moment.

Ashley-Cooper should be told that he will be dropped if he ever kicks the ball again.

Lealiifano is playing well, but will not give the ball to his wingers.

The two wingers are going well but are given zero opportunities.

The coach has the old NSW mentality that you can win games through your defence alone. Sorry, but with the current rule interpretations, it is vital to retain possession and not kick the ball away.
