Deye has sent in some pictures from today’s airport open day, with a particular focus on the F/A-18 Hornet’s aerobatic display.

Calculus400 has posted some reasonable video on YouTube:

“Being near Canberra I want to be able to go out to the airport to take some photos. Are there people here who go there regularly?”

There’s often quite a few cars hanging around at the end of the runway. Families, loners, work guys, you name it. When there’s a lot, you know a special aeroplane is coming.

Gunghalin Al, “sick” is the word you’re looking for. or “filth” (as in, that manouvre was filth).

not fully sick anymore?
damn.

mainly up at brand depot, easier to get a good park, and plane spot to your heart’s content. I sometimes go there at lunch if i have meetings that way. I know there are a few photographers that take photos from the top level at brindabella park, but that costs money. Brand depot area is free.

I think it was too windy for them to put the balloon up.

agreed. which is why we will go on a balloon ride later….

I think it was too windy for them to put the balloon up.

considering that i have had more interesting debates about politics, religion and general life, that I have had with my friends who are Muslims, and over a cup of evil coffee with awesome baklava at that, they have great tolerance for me as I try to understand their religious beliefs, and they are quick to point out our similarities.

I get on really well with them.
as one mentioned to me at the airshow, it was a shame that the tethered balloon was just a basket with the burners running, he and I are now talking about a balloon ride over Canberra – I have already done it, he would love to. Our wives agreed that we are both equally crazy.

I did overhear one w@nker make the tired comment that “they must be doings some homework” the fact that they were making the comment to a group of people that told him to pull his head in is good to see.

Whoever that guy was, can I just delcare him a Massive Dickhead, here and now?

Muslims are, in general terms, no better or worse than any other similar-sized religious-identifying group of people, and there are some 300,000 identitfying Muslims in Australia (imagine every house in Canberra being occupied).
Anyone trying to use and stand by that kind of comment in public, in Canberra, had better know how to fight their way out in a hurry.

(And anyone assuming that ‘Muslim’, ‘Islam’ and ‘Arab’ are interchangeable terms had better go and do some research)

Yeah, that sucks.

My blood is boiling so early in the week!

one thing that i noticed about the open day is that there were people from all nationalities. It was really great to see several muslim friends of mine come out to have a look.

They really had fun, as did my family.

maybe we can see more events with involvement from all parts of the community, without worrying about what might be thought of their presence there.

I think they’re planning a dawn raid.

; )

When you least expect it, expect it ….

They probably decided to spare DFO this time because of their massive failure to evacuate the place in under 2 hours. So it wouldn’t have been sporting.

I was fascinated by the way that the helicopters (departing on joy flights) behaved like their fixed wing counter parts, having to “taxi” (hover) to the edge of the runway, await aircraft on landing approach to clear, then finally enter the end of the runway and sit (hovering) awaiting clearance for take off/departure. They then departed down the runway.

I know it is all to do with aircraft movements, safety and general air traffic control, but you don’t think of a helicopter as having to use the runway to takeoff and leave an airport precinct.

There is a link on the words “some pictures” that will take you to them in a non flash slideshow. I’m afraid DFO is still standing 😉

Bummer, flash. Can’t see it, so I have to ask, did they manage to get DFO like was promised? What sort of ammo did they use?

I just had to include that Qantas two jet one after a few of the posts on the original thread 😉
