Police investigating last week’s shooting incident at Canberra Airport have urged anyone who still hasn’t spoken with officers to get in touch.

Investigators believed there were people who were either in or around the check-in area in the lead-up to and during the shooting on Sunday (14 August) who still hadn’t been interviewed.

Officers particularly appealed to anyone who had family members or friends who used Canberra Airport early Sunday afternoon to contact police, as well as those who witnessed any suspicious behaviour.

Travellers from interstate who used the airport to get home have also been urged to step forward if they witnessed anything that could be relevant to the shooting.

Five shots were fired near the Qantas check-in area at Canberra Airport at about 1:30 pm on Sunday, 14 August.

The Canberra Airport terminal was evacuated at the time and planes were kept on the tarmac with passengers not allowed to disembark until the situation was deemed under control.

A man suspected of being the gunman was arrested at the time and fronted court on Monday (15 August).

The alleged shooter was identified as Ali Rachid Ammoun, a 63-year-old man from NSW.

He has been charged with recklessly shooting at the airport, unauthorised possession of a .38/200 Smith & Wesson revolver and intentionally shooting the revolver to cause a named person to fear for their safety.

Mr Ammoun did not apply for bail, and was next scheduled to appear in court on September 5.

Anyone with relevant information about the shooting could contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, quoting reference 7187298.

Witnesses from outside of the Territory should call ACT Policing on 02 5127 0051.

Why do you need more witnesses when it is all captured on CCTV!

Ha ha I’m glad we’re not relying on you Sam Oak to solve crime in the ACT!!

Jack please tell me how crime solving works in the ACT. There is video footage, a suspect arrested, physical damage to the glass windows and presumable a weapon confiscated. Yet the AFP are still playing Cleudo?
