New retail and hospitality areas have opened at Canberra Airport in the first stage of its revamp of services at the terminal.

Travellers and airport visitors in need of food and refreshment will now have a choice of three new restaurants and cafés, while a large news, travel and gift shop will be able to meet other needs.

The gift shop will have a focus on locally made products designed to showcase Canberra and the surrounding regions.

Food and beverage provider Airport Retail Enterprises (ARE) has opened a new café, City Hill Coffee, featuring Canberra’s ONA coffee, near the main atrium’s Unfurling sculpture.

ARE has also launched Noodles XO, an Asian noodle and sushi offering, and Baker’s Cut, which serves artisan sandwiches and salads featuring local produce.

The City Hill cafe will feature local ONA coffee.

Australian Way Pty Ltd (AWPL), a world-class airport retailer with stores in many airports around Australia and New Zealand, is behind the news, books and gift shop, called News@CBR.

Head of property at Canberra Airport Richard Snow said the terminal has forged new relationships with local producers to make sure it can offer Canberrans local products whenever possible.

“We are always trying to enrich the travel experience for Canberrans and our visitors, and we hope the community loves this next stage of this journey as much as we do,” he said.

In 2020, the second stage of the terminal’s new retail program will be unveiled, including another new retail and gift shop called Merchant Canberra, as well as the much-anticipated Capital Brewing Co Bar, a partnership with the well-known, local brewery which will showcase the latest beers on offer, combined with high-quality, locally sourced meals.

I would be more excited if the announcement was for more direct national and international flights from here by more airlines………….. 🙂
