Hi Fellow Rioters!!

I am working on a presentation at work and am needing some information that I just cannot find anywhere!!!!!

I have looked and searched and researched but to no avail.

I require stats/numbers/figures/business demographics for the difference in the amount of people who work for the Gov as opposed to private industry in the ACT.

Breakdowns of that nature etc.

I am not asking for this information direct (if you have it it would be great) but more asking where i can find this information.

This would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Conan!!!

My only suggestion hardly being an expert is ABS. Alternatively for rough figures the population of Canberra is 335,000 people. Minus 40% for kids and old people and you have 201,000 working age members of society. At 3% unemployment you then have 194,970 workers. Then take the Budget papers and 17,559 of those people work for the ACT Government. For the Commonwealth you’d have greater difficulty determining numbers but they must do counts…

Alright, back in my box before someone who knows what they are doing turns up. Skid maybe…

Plus you need to minus all the wives and defacto mothers etc that have no way to be counted as unemployed if their husbands work enough. There are quite of few of them not working nor listed as unemployed for any statistic purpose that is.

Dunno quite how you would do that?

amount of people who work for the Gov as opposed to private industry in the ACT.

Government: 0%
Private Sector: 95%

You wanted the amount of people that work yes, or did you want employment figures?

I’m going to need to see youre credentials…

ABS has that sort of info, although its from the 2006 census so might not be relevant for you, see ” Working Population Profile” here:

http://www.censusdata.abs.gov.au/ABSNavigation/prenav/ViewData?&action=404&documentproductno=8&documenttype=Details&tabname=Details&areacode=8&issue=2006&producttype=Community%20Profiles&&producttype=Community Profiles&javascript=true&textversion=false&navmapdisplayed=true&breadcrumb=PLD&&collection=Census&period=2006&producttype=Community Profiles&#Working Population Profile

Check the Bureau of Stats site. From memory it is about 40% of Canberrans who work for the public service.

Census? ABS? Write to the Chief Ministers Dept and ask, or even just search act.gov.au. I found this very quickly – check the second to last paragraph.
