A group of 14 Canberra businesswomen will take their can-do attitude to the gala awards ceremony of the 2020 Altitude Awards in Sydney tonight (7 November).
The Altitude Awards have been running for seven years and have awarded more than 250 business and social enterprises in Australia for their contributions as business owners, entrepreneurs, creative thinkers and leaders.
The awards acknowledge the achievement of everyday people across a range of sectors including small business, leadership, individual achievement and contribution to the community.
The 14 Canberra finalists are from 12 organisations in the Canberra region. They have been recognised across 10 of the 16 categories.
The recognised Canberra businesses include career coaching, photography, dog breeding, education, massage therapy, professional organising, women’s health, business advisory, mental health and psychology.
The 2020 Altitude Awards Canberra finalists and categories are:
- Susan Mackell, Smack Design – finalist in Purpose Driven Entrepreneur and Best in Service;
- Kerry Howard, PsychNEXUS – The Changemaker Award;
- Rebecca McFarland, Pop Your Business and Pop Your Career – finalist in both Through the Woods and Purpose Driven Entrepreneur categories;
- Grace Costa, Grace Costa Photographer – Revolutionary Award;
- Adele Haussmann and Kirsten Smith, HerSmile – On My Way Award;
- Kristine Hewett and Keron Beath, Adamas Nexus – Purpose Driven Entrepreneur Award;
- Kaylene Dore, Waratah Puppies – Best in Service Award;
- Candice Edye and Anna Pino, Lighthouse Business Innovation Centre – Best Professional Service Business Award;
- Hannah Taylor, Tutor Canberra – Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award;
- Abby Rees, Punk PD – finalist in both Business Excellence Award and The Changemaker Award;
- Bonnie Weston, The Avid Organiser – Soaring Micro Award;
- Lisa LaMaitre, Therapy Masters – Revolutionary Award.
Women with Altitude founder Andrea Turner-Boys said the awards celebrate and champion the achievements of individuals and teams.
“We had a record number of entries this year, with the calibre of entrants being the best we have seen,” she said.
“Each finalist has been chosen for their outstanding contributions in their respective field. The awards’ reach has expanded in recent years and we love seeing so many Canberra businesses participating.
“To have 14 finalists from Canberra is outstanding and we are extremely excited about the awards ceremony on Saturday night.”
An independent judging panel adjudicates the awards. Winners of the 16 categories will be announced at the gala awards ball tonight at the LCC Event Centre in Sydney.
The event will be held in accordance with COVID-19 regulations.
The awards are also a social enterprise arm of Women with Altitude and the Men’s Altitude Network, with all proceeds donated to charity. This year’s charity is Feel the Magic, an organisation that helps children who have lost a parent or sibling.
