The Canberra Centre have announced bus services running from their sprawling estate to Floriade.

Visitors can choose from two central CBD locations to catch the City to Floriade Shuttle , departing Canberra Centre at Petrie Street every 45 minutes followed by a stop at the Sydney Building on Northbourne Avenue a few minutes later, then onto Floriade. The loop shuttle service will be offered Thursday to Sunday, 9am to 5pm throughout Floriade

I got the shuttle to floriade on Sunday, parked for free in outdoor parking and got the bus from Northbourne – it worked out really well, much better than battling for parking at floriade

Personally, this just stinks of a money grab. Given that parking at Canberra Centre was about $3-4 for a 30min park last time I was at CC.

$10 rooftop all day, otherwise….
Up to 1 hour $3.00
Up to 2 hours $4.00
Up to 3 hours $6.00
Up to 4 hours $8.00

depends if you’re fit and 30, or say an aged person of 75 or 80… Me – i would walk happily. Would I expect my mum to walk? Not necessarily.

That’s a fair point, but consider that looking around Floriade itself requires considerable walking (unless you have/hire a mobility device).

Personally, this just stinks of a money grab. Given that parking at Canberra Centre was about $3-4 for a 30min park last time I was at CC, this will be a sweet earner for them.

It’s a 5-10min walk from CC to Commonwealth Park even allowing for a couple of lights. Heck, I’ve chosen to walk from the Nash to CC for lunch on occasion because the walk is more pleasant over the bridge than driving the short distance. 15mins.

have people really lost the ability to walk in Canberra?

with all the traffic lights and bus hassles, it might actually be faster to walk

Read: “Please give us your parking money, rather than the government and, when you walk past all those shops to return to your car, you might as well spend some money there too.”
