Bioshock. I’ve seen it on the shelves at EB and GW, but had absolutely no idea that it was developed here in Canberra.

The ABC are reporting here that Bioshock won top honours for story writing, visual arts, and audio.

This may just be the persuasive touch for me to finally get off my ass and buy it, as I’ve been looking at it for a while now.

More info on Bioshock can be found on it’s wiki entry here.

Does anybody have a copy that they are no longer playing ?

Actually, Bioshock was developed mainly in the 2k Games Boston studio. The Canberra studio (2k Games Australia, formerly known as Irrational Games) mainly did tools and engine programming.

The Canberra studio DID however save the game from being a pile of shit, as a few of the seasoned artists from Canberra went over to the Boston studio to show them how to make the game look pretty and keep a consistant art style.

So yeah, it was mainly created in Boston, with the help from Canberra.

Specifically I think the PC release was developed here, so if you want to support the locals pick up the Windows version rather than the 360 version.

Wow, developed in Canberra… it almost makes me reconsider me playing my pirated copy with a hacked no-dvd exe file…

Almost.

Ari – It’s quite emotionally engaging enough thank you.

AlpineViper – That doesn’t help either, RG is teh 1am0rZ

I’ve always favoured the medic because everybody loves you.

Randomgit – I’d suggest trying the Engineer then 🙂
Or the Medic. Heck, even the Heavy you don’t need to be too twitchy for.

Note to admins – thanks for finishing off my shite html, I was going to get back to it, but got distracted at work.

I’m going to have to pick up that swarm plasmid now.

TF2 was great in essentials, but a bit too ‘twitch’ for my liking. Maybe I’m just too slow in my dotage.

Bioshock is near the top of the list of “Must play” games of 2007, right next to Portal and Team Fortress 2.

It’s incredibly atmospheric and beautifully designed. It does suffer a bit towards the end though 🙁

But, when you can genetically alter your hand to shoot BEES, who cares?

I’m playing it now.

Every night I can’t sleep because it is so damn involving and stimulating.

For an FPS, the tactics can be complex but the interface handles it well.

I have nothing bad to say about it. Go get it now.

As a performance indicator, I can run it well enough on Medium GFX settings with a Nvidia 7900 GS 256MB. On high it tends to stick if there are lots of effects, which is to say, all the time.
