Doctor Ammar Dhaimat was been charged with committing an act of indecency last week, reports ABC News.

It turns out that the good Doctor is in fact wanted by Interpol for doing the same thing in the UK and then fleeing the country on bail.

How did he end up being allowed to work here?

It prompted ACT magistrate Beth Campbell to ask how someone could be registered to practice medicine in the ACT while having outstanding offences overseas.

The body responsible for registration the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency says all doctors including Dr Dhaimat must sign an annual declaration that they do not have pending criminal proceedings in relation to sex offences.

The Agency says when Dr Dhaimat was registered to practice in the ACT in May 2008 he would have required a certificate of good standing from overseas medical authorities and a clearance from the Australian Federal Police (AFP).

Previously the lawyer for Dr Dhaimat has told the magistrates court he has only practiced medicine in Jordan and Australia.

The AFP received paperwork relating to an extradition request from Interpol on April 13, 2013.

UPDATE: They’ve let him out on bail again! I wonder which country he’ll work in next?

So he had fled the UK whilst on bail after being suspected of carrying out a similar offence in that country and is wanted by Interpol?? Massive fail Australian authorities!

One imagines his passport has been seized so if he wants to leave, he’ll have to swim…

Yes. I am certain they have taken his passport, and am sure there is zero chance of any of the countries he might have citizenship with issuing him another…. Or him taking a boat out of he country and getting a new passport issued at his embassy wherever he goes.

OK, so that might not be as easy as crossing the English channel (can be done in a hilux…) but I can be damn sure I’d give it a go if I thought I might do time, and had citizenship somewhere else.

Well perhaps we should encourage him for i’m sure he’ll feel at home at the bottom…of the ocean that is 🙂

He is probably arranging travel back to Jordan with Captain Amed.

I’m sure he had to sign a form saying he won’t leave the country.
