Accessallareas has a story on Pink adding a second Canberra show to her tour after the first show sold out.

“The new show will be on Sunday May 20th at the AIS Arena with tickets on sale next Monday January 15 through Ticketek 132 849.

Can anyone recall the last time a major act played two nights in Canberra?

The RSPCA manage quite well with that amount of animals on premises…

Still no mulesing…

If I mulesed my dog/cat/fish, I would be arrested. The RSPCA would be onto me faster than Chick Henry onto a Government Handout.

So why is it ok on sheep ?

Answer 1. There are about a billion more of them than pets
Answer 2. It is a recognised technique
Answer 3. Every other farmer in the country is doing it

Those kinds of answers are lame, and pathetic. I am aware that farmers aren’t intending to be cruel, however their reluctance to deal with the problem is stupendous.

At an individual level, farmers can’t make the change. How long has there been farming cooperatives though, the last 1000 years of the 2000 years we’ve been farming ?

It’s time some of the fat they have been living off the last few thousand years were turned back around into business development.

No business has ever progressed by standing still, this is real 101 economics stuff…

Bit more complicated than that, J Dawg – an individual member of the police force may be charged with a crime in the course of their duties, and, depending on the case, the police force union may very well cover their legal bills.

Something caught my eye:

Individual members of PETA may have individual court cases against them, so do the police. The police are still the authoritative source relating to crime. Do I need to make more analagies

No more analagies needed, however a justification to that comment is needed. If a member of a Police force commits a crime, does the Police force pay their legal bills? How is this the same when PETA pays the legal bills to defend their members of the animal cruelty charges they are facing?

It’s your right to boycott PETA and their supporters, KaneO. Just as it’s the right of Members of PETA and their supporters to boycott whatever they want to.

Ain’t freedom great?

I could not attend any event, or purchase any product associated with a PETArd.

Pink is married to a retired American moto x rider named Carey Hart

I dislike Pink but if her selling out one (or two) concerts in canberra leads to more big name musicians paying attention to canberra then hooray!

Although I guess the 6+ hours spent on a bus to and from sydney does add to the experience of seeing a bigname group in concert.

Seriously people. Who gives a shit?

She’s as much entitled as you to have her own opinion and IMO good on her for voicing it. I think that not enough people speak up when they see something they disagree with.

If you dont like what she is saying then dont pay any attention.

wow.

I had no idea about her stance on sheep but from listening to her lyrics I agree with Maeliner’s first comment. Like or dislike her music it’s better than “like me ‘cuase I’m stupid and pretty” which is all most of the other pop missy’s offer

pink is also here to see the family…..she’s married to the aussie motocross bloke (corey someone?).
personaly i think that she’s a bit of a slapper, and her views on animal husbandry are those of someone that has a fluffy view of the world. mulesing is a pretty extreme solution to a common sheep problem, and i don’t think farmers make the decision lightly. there are other ways to combat flystrike like crutching etc. our family never did it to our sheep, but i do remember the sight of maggot infested sheeps arses. lovely.
as my farmboy cousins say…don’t hang shit on farmers with your mouth full.

Pink is a c*nt! She’s just like all the other morons in PETA (and other similar idiotic organisations) who bleat on about how cruel Australians are because we ‘mistreat’ sheep and kill lovely cute kangaroos.

I’d be more worried about the damage Pink is doing to the enviroment by releasing more ‘music’ on compact discs made out of lovely petrochemicals!

“fucking tree hugging hippies.”

Yeah, that’s me in one, you have no idea

“with farmers committing suicide all over the shop”

Bullshit

Nothing like a bit of overgeneralisation, and then sprouting off on something you know nothing of (“i just made that up, though. i don’t have any facts.”) to make yourself look silly.

But then again you could just look silly, or prove that you are by saying this:

“also: once i had a pot plant and a family of mice. i too considered myself a farmer.”

Absolute doodle

umm, where did you miss the comment that I have docked sheep ?

Yes, it was me driving the hot iron castrater.

It was me, the farmer, thinking that there must be a better way to do things. It was me speculating that after 2000 years of farming the animal that surely somebody had thought of improving the way we do business.

Practically, I don’t think the world will boycott Australian wool, but if it prompted people into action, then it would be a positive move wouldn’t it ?

Only need to look at Dolphin Safe Tuna to see an example of customer-driven corporate change. Fancy having a customer willing to pay MORE money for a product that has been caught in a more environmentally friendly or humane manner. Oh that’s right, that’s exactly what we are talking about.

fucking tree hugging hippies.

okay, so, it appears you do kind of know what you’re talking about. i just assumed that because you think Pink is a good role model that you were a complete dumbass. my mistake.

first up, i think you and i have different ideas of ‘improper practices’. we’re not going to agree here.

Australian Wool Innovation Limited has actually invested a fuckload of money into alternatives for mulesing. so far they have found nothing that is feasible. they are on the right track, and they are trying to develop other cost-effective options, but until then farmers don’t really have a choice.

why should the common farmer worry about mulesing? in their opinion, it is saving the sheep from a horrific death in the most cost-effective way possible. i love a cute animal as much as the next person but when you’re struggling to feed your family in a drought like this one, you aren’t thinking about alternatives to a perfectly functional practice. with farmers committing suicide all over the shop i just think it’s tragic that people choose to focus on things like this.

you talk like farmers have pots of money to be throwing at research into mulesing alternatives. so far, AWI have invested nearly $1 mil into this cause. isn’t that good enough? the fact is that (real) farmers do not have the resources to do anything about this. they are busy trying to work out how they will feed the sheep to keep them alive (non-surical alternatives are fairly redundant if the sheep is dead or was never born in the first place, don’t you agree?).

also: once i had a pot plant and a family of mice. i too considered myself a farmer.

anyway, it’s clear that we just have VERY different views of what is important. the point is that Pink knows fuck all about what she’s spouting off and if the world boycotted Australian wool, a lot of families would be up shit creek. are you cool with supporting that? i’m not.

Yeah.

Mael

This quote from Toastie may clarify:

“i think it’s because of the flies and climate here as opposed to somewhere like England etc.

i just made that up, though. i don’t have any facts. “

I’d suggest that is somewhat applicable to the rest of their opinions on this subject

Toastie, read the following sentence again:

Yes sheep are different, and there are seperate issues involved (food/pet), but that never precluded that there may be alternative methods of doing it.

That was intended to cover the adequacy of mulesing as a technique.

Please remember that mulesing is a technique, it’s not the be-all end-all.

Individual members of PETA may have individual court cases against them, so do the police. The police are still the authoritative source relating to crime. Do I need to make more analagies ?

At one stage in my life I considered myself a farmer. I am not bullshitting, nor will I stop ranting about the improper practices displayed by farmers in this country.

I make no apologies if you think it means ALL farmers. ForfuckingchristssakedoIneedtospelleverythingouttoyouinreallybigletters. Steriotypes are generated because a LOT of people appear to be doing the same thing. I challenge you to deny there isn’t a steriotypical image of Australian Farmers.

Then back up your response with Centrelink backed figures, cause that will tell you a different story if you paint a pretty picture.

There are ALTERNATIVE ways of docking sheep. Opening your mind to the fact that there may be more than one option is something you learn when you are 8.

For example; How much farmer-funded research has been done into breeding sheep with no tails ?
= $0.

How much farmer-funded research has gone into exploring non-painful options or painkillers or anasthesia ?
= $0.

Now deny that farmers are reluctant to persue radical research options such as genetic research as you attempt to put your jaw around the cup-sized strawberry you are eating.

Finally, I have a big fucking idea about what I am talking about. I have been on roadshows talking directly to farmers about farming practices. I am currently engaging international farmers and property owners about environmental and alternative/responsible practices.

And I talk to people like you every fucking day of my life.

yes, naughty little buggers.

“the sheeps ass is infected with flesh eating maggots and can result in death”

Is it as a result of sheep not wiping their bottoms properly?

i think it’s because of the flies and climate here as opposed to somewhere like England etc.

i just made that up, though. i don’t have any facts.

They’ve been bred to have totally unnatural coats which need more maintenance than a wild sheep would.

What did sheep do before us kind humans decided to shear them?
Or is it just because there are more flies here than where they naturally evolved?

(ps. not necessarily being a smartarse here… would like to know)

haha, you have no idea what you’re talking about, Maelinar.

first of all – go to http://www.petakillsanimals.com/ and decide how moral having the support of PETA is. here’s a fun fact: two of it’s people are up on charges of 22 counts of cruelty to animals. who’s paying their legal fees? PETA! how lovely.

secondly – stop your bullshit about farmers. i don’t know where you got your generalisations from, and i appreciate if you knew one farmer like that, but it’s fucked to say that all farmers do it. and – excuse me? farmers are too lazy to prevent flystrike without mulesing? have you ever seen a good Australian sheep farmer at work?

mulseing is necessary. just so you are aware – the RSPCA accept it as so.
have you ever seen a sheep with flystike? do you know what happens with flystike? the sheeps ass is infected with flesh eating maggots and can result in death. fun!

She’s a ripper of a role model. A loud mouthed American, covered in tattoos, who opens her mouth on issues before her mind is engaged to it.

The interview she did on 60 Minutes did nothing but prove that she should stick to singing. The rails against conforming to the ideals of the major labels but that’s exactly what she does now.

I’d suggest dressing a 2yo like a slut has a little more to do with the attitudes of the parents rather than the 2yos favourite music artist. With a 14 month old child of my own I’m guessing that, at 2, he might not have progressed much past Dora the Explorer or Dorothy the Dinosaur as ‘role models’. That and he will prettyt much be relying on me and my wife to dress him in what we select.

Having said that, I do agree with the stuff you say about farmers. I might a drought in southern Australia…..who would have ever guessed?

If you are heeding, or indeed listening at all to any of the advice of Ms. Pink

Actually, trying to advise young girls against a life of debauchery and solid alternative role model examples to the Brittney Spears/Christina Aquilera/Jessica Simpson set doesn’t make me a sad person.

Call me finicky but I don’t feel any inclinations towards dressing a 2 year old like a slut.

Take a good look in Target the next time you’re there and you will see examples of the tween, pre-tween etc marketeering and sexualising of society that is going on.

So what if Pink made a comment regarding thinking docking sheep is atrocious ?

If we think back only a couple of years, the RSPCA successfully lobbied the outlawing of removing of Rottweillers tails due to the abhorrent practices that were going on. Yes sheep are different, and there are seperate issues involved (food/pet), but that never precluded that there may be alternative methods of doing it.

Just so you are aware, the standard practice for docking a sheep as far as I have done it is to drive a hot iron through the tail of the lamb. The hot iron is to cauterise the flesh as you cut the tail from its body. The tail is blood filled and alive, and the arteries will spurt blood for several minutes until the rest of the cauterisation takes effect. The lamb is traumatised by the event, and will wander away dazed.

The alternative is for it to become fly-blown, a haphazard and irresponsible way of otherwise saying that a farmer is either too lazy or is trying to profiteer by not shaving off the wool until absolutely necessary or the absolute maximum yield of wool is obtained. It is also possible to ‘dag’ sheep, which is a shearing technique designed to stop the incidence of fly-blown sheep.

It is common practice to shear sheep more than once a year in countries outside Australia. (lower yield but more comfortable life for the sheep).

So it comes to which would you believe – an alternative rock singer who has the support of an internationally accredited animal welfare organisation PETA, or the rock solid Australian Farmer, been in drought for the last 100 years and living off the welfare of all us civic dwellers trying to make as much money as possible out of a grim situation.

Motivation is a bigger factor in this argument than is apparent…

hope someone delivers her a non-mulesed flyblown sheep to kiss

*you’re

fuck, there should be edit thingies here.

If you are heeding, or indeed listening at all to any of the advice of Ms. Pink then you are a sad person.

She’s a singer who caters to the teen set. I hope they enjoy the show

wtf is she even doing coming to Australia?

She has sold out a show in Canberra. That is reason enough for coming.

Clearly it allows Pink additional access to the Prime Minister to demonstrate her expansive knowledge of agricultural practices generally and those pertaining particularly to the wool industry.

We didn’t complain when she was rude on other subjects about which she was apparently entirely unqualified, so why start now?

I think he meant stupid questions

*rhetorical(?)

*rhetoric.

gosh, simto, lucky your here to answer my rhetic questions.

That was Tim Finn, not Neil Finn. If Neil was touring, ticket sales wouldn’t be a problem.

And in answer to wtf is she even doing coming to Australia – well, selling out concerts, apparently.

Hot House Flowers, 1992.

wtf is she even doing coming to Australia? b*tch needs to stfu and not show her face here.

Very rare indeed.

Canberra Theatre recently cancelled the Neil Finn concert 8 weeks before the date because they didn’t have enough ticket sales .
