Canberra Gyms

Can anyone suggest a gym in Canberra? Preferably south side or in Belco as I go to UC.

It seems that most 12 month gym memberships are ~$800+ for basic ones, and thought that was a rather disgusting price especially after seeing an 18 month membership with personal trainer each session for $500.

Some local ones with new equipment were also cheap (in comparison). 12 months for $400

I’ve seen the Vikings club has got some rather old equipment and 12mo membership for $450 I think.

Anyone know of some Easter deals coming up or anything?

Cheers =]

+1 for AIS .
Although UC is the most affordable option

just look for a decent gym. its the quality trainer you gotta be looking for !
build muscles, huge gains you rocky balboa (Y)

You could try the gym at the ANU, slightly more expensive than UC. But you get the added bonus of it not being in a demountable building..

Crossfit home gym, because Crossfit loves you.

I especially love this part:
How To Get Kicked Out Of Your Gym In Ten Days Or Less!
Day 1
Bring your own music – use a boom box – and turn
it up to inspiration levels and start working out. ACDC’s
“Thunderstruck” should do the trick.

Depends on what you ‘need’ a gym for. Have a look at the physique of an elite male gymnast. They don’t touch weights, all body weight exercises.

Get a decent pair of runners and find a set of monkey bars (there’s a gazillion around Lake G). Save yourself a ton of cash and watching weak as piss guidoes sit all night chatting on the machines you want to use

Club Lime also now has the advantage of paying for short periods – a few days at a time. Not sure about details, as I’ve had a long-term membership with them and so haven’t investigated the short-term stuff.

This is our onlime product.

…..especially after seeing an 18 month membership with personal trainer each session for $500.

its illegal to sell a fixed membership for 18 months in the ACT according to the ACT Fitness Industry Code of Practice…

the fixed term must be no more than 12 months.

We (Club Lime) currently offer 12 month paid in full memberships for $744 (one Gym), or $888 (access to all 7, plus aquatic facilities at CISAC)…or pay by the fortnight at $31 and $37 respectively.

if you don’t want a contracted membership, you can try our onLime product (www.onLime.net.au), memberships from 7 days at a time, and available at all 7 locations also.

We are now located at Belconnen (Oatley Court), CISAC Belconnen (Eastern Valley Way), Kaleen, Gold Creek Country Club, Gungahlin, Mawson and Tuggeranong.

Harry to answer any questions you might have!

I guess I can go to the gym at UC after classes seeing as there isn’t anything really down south with a good price range.

Just not keen on driving 30+ minutes to get to a gym during holidays is all 😛

Thumbs up for AIS from me. Also heard CIT Bruce and UC are good. But this is the opinion of me and buds who are just looking to be left to our own devices in a room with basic gear that’s not too busy. My partner is more interested in classes. She likes Northside at Dickson Tradies. Not the cheapest but not the most expensive either. It seems pretty good to me too, from when I tried it on a trial pass.

Club Lime also now has the advantage of paying for short periods – a few days at a time. Not sure about details, as I’ve had a long-term membership with them and so haven’t investigated the short-term stuff.

I use the UC gym despite not being a student. It has staff to help you and enough equipment to go around and is not full of body beautifuls checking themselves out. My parter goes to CIT Bruce and he says that is good as well.

UC Gym is pretty good, and cheap for you?

I was a member of Southern Cross, and that gym actually is really good. I used to go on my lunchbreak and just do the speed circuit, machines that are only for people who want to go in and to quickly, and I got some great results doing that.

We use what used to be called “Bodyworks”, then became “Alive”, before briefly reverting to “Bodyworks”, which now appears to be “Club Lime” (complete with bile green decor).

We’ve no complaints, friendly staff, reasonable classes and equipment, and we pay 30 bucks a fortnight in membership.

They often have joining offers which are worth keeping an eye open for.

AIS is great. $57 a month and you’re not locked into a contract.

Yeah, I’m wondering what’s wrong with the UC gym!?

Also the AIS gym.

Isn’t there also something at CISAC?

I can’t speak for any of these places but they are all very close to the UC.

I used to go to the gym at UC and it was good. Heaps cheaper than most gyms and fairly decent gear.

Have you looked at the UC gym? It’s really cheap esp. for students, and I found it really good (albeit a bit small)

I am a very happy former member of Flames at Phillip. Only “former” because I now spend most of my time in Sydney, and it wasn’t good value anymore.

Now I use the on-site gyms run by my employer. $15 a month with 24×7 access and personal training 🙂
