Yes, it’s true, the event with more turtlenecks than you can poke a stick at, the 2006 Canberra International Film Festival is kicking off this Thursday and running to 05-NOV-06.

The program is online for your convenience.

Will this be the last year it’s held at electric Shadows with the new Dendy cinema opening in the Canberra Centre?

Yes, it’s the last time it’ll be held at Electric Shadows because it’s closing down. They announced at the end of September that their last day is December 13, “just in time for a new slate of major films to open at Dendy for Christmas”.

They’re apparently going to be having a massive closing down festival/retrospective, but details aren’t available yet.

Hm – the electric shadows website still has no update on when the new one’ll be opening – just an expectation of late 2006 (which is right about now).

Although they do also advertise that there’s a Q&A screening of “God on Our Side” with Andrew Denton (it’s a doco in which Denton goes to the National Religious Broadcaster’s Convention in Texas, and finds out exactly where the faithinistas are coming from nowadays) on Thursday 9 November at 8.15- tickets are $20.
