Canberra is "really stupid stuff"?

An intriguing piece of Canberra bashing in the Canberra Times today:

So the government spends my tax dollars on some really stupid stuff. Like internet filtering, the Olympics, the Army and Canberra. OK, while that’s their choice, the automotive industry is not owned or run by the government. So why does it get so much money?

Why are so few comedians actually funny anymore?

Oh, but they are. Next time you watch Q&A, look for the ‘social commentator’.

I thought a social commentator was a comedian who on reaching 30, realised that they had no marketable skills and chose bullshyting over burger flipping and for a living.

Keep Canberra-bashing Canberran.

As a commentator he makes a bloody awful comedian!

Oh dear, the CT editor should perhaps read the copy from the interstate writers which the staff are cut and pasting before putting it into the paper. In the old days of Fairfax copy sharing via telex (1970s/early ’80s), the CT typists used to pick up this sort of thing and mark it for the editor’s attention before the compositing process. It rarely made it into print. Nowadays you just bung everything onto the website, sight unseen.

God, precious much?
It was one tiny part of an otherwise fairly witty article, taking an informal poke at government stupidity. But you focus on the tiny, slightly sarcastic slight to canberra. OH NOES!

Ha!

Nup, that wasn’t a laugh, just a sudden exhalation as I pushed a nuggetty turd out, which was much like Xavier’s alleged sense of humour.

An extremely weak and uninformed piece that boils down to the common opinion of “We shouldn’t spend money on anything I don’t care about.” Well, unfortunately life (and government) is a little more complicated than that…
