After years of working with and against the public service. It is always a priviledge to see new froms of spin.

This example however takes the cake, eats it, spews it back up and then promptly throws it in the face of all Canberrans. See more of shakespeare the pube at work here from our good friends at aunty.

Here is a quote:

“About $20 million in funding is being sought for a centre of dialogue in Canberra, which would to be used for a range of national and international summits.”

Apparently, it is one of these;

“It’ll be used by parties which want to meet out of the office so to speak, out of the more threatening environment of the office or government buildings, Parliament House etc”

What in Gods name is a ‘centre of dialogue’, and how does this differ from the mega convention centre that this government has been wanking on about for years?

Who can say White Elephant?

Looks like a good opportunity for a Conversation Provider to set up a shop in the lobby.

The first thought I had was that it may be somewhere you could go and speak with people of non england speaking backgrounds without the need for a translater..

I’m sorry young man we’re talking about pot holes not hippies

a bigger question needs to be asked – how on earth do ideas like this get to the leadership team who approves them ?

there is a seriously flawed process in place when a govt focusses on frippery like this and arboroteums and 150 million dollar busways when basic things like potholes and town planning need to be addressed.

debate on a proper convention centre is bogged down yet the money this ‘dialogue centre’ requires could be spent on something which would make canberra a place where international conventions could be held.

i hope that stanhope does realise that ‘doing nothing’ means that canberra will be bypased indefinitely for all major events.
