An Islamic community centre sustained thousands of dollars worth of damage at the hands of vandals on Sunday.

It’s believed the intruders climbed the fence and broke in through a small window at the back of the building between 7.00am and 5.30pm.

Offensive language was spray-painted across internal and external walls, paintings were ripped, televisions were destroyed, books were damaged and food items were strewn across the dining hall.

It’s the second time in the past fortnight the centre has been damaged by intruders.

Police are urging anyone who may have witnessed or heard anything suspicious in the area of Clive Steele Street around this time to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or via www.act.crimestoppers.com.au. Information can be provided anonymously.

It was reported on the front page of Sunday Canberra that an ACT Muslim group has purchased a block at Rivett shops and the group intends to build a mosque there. If approved, this will be the third mosque (place of worship for the PC brigade) in as many years, in the ACT.
Apparently, the ACT cabinet approved the sale in March this year however, no explanation has been given as to why an announcement has not been made earlier.
A spokesman said the group will be preaching “love for all, hatred for none”.
Any thought of well being about that statement lasts only to page 13 where the headline “Dozens die in mosque attack” dominates the World section of the paper.
The story that follows describes any thing but “love for all, hatred for none” as one group of Muslims slaughter another.
Can someone explain why we are in denial about the threat of global Islamisation?

There is always a RA contributor with the down low on local news items… This time I’m looking in stormfront’s direction…

What happened to the live-in Imam that was a condition of the centre’s last developmentdeal with the ACT government? This wouldn’t have happened if there was someone living on site.

Good point dungfungus. Although I also wonder if it might have devolved into something even worse if he was there? I’d like to know what these people were thinking when they decided that criminal actions would have been a good way to express themselves or whatever it was they had in mind, or if there couldn’t be a better way for them to reasonably express it. Probably they weren’t thinking that much at all really.

It’s good the community helped out and did not leave it to crooks to have the last say, thanks Masquara for mentioning it.

Vandals are cowards – they only do their stuff if no one is around and they usually take off if challenged. I don’t think anyone has suggested the incident was targeted at Islamists; more so the building which does look somewhat unfinished and therefore an attractive target for vandals.
I am also glad the community is helping out but if the correct insurance policies are in place there should be no need for external financial assistance.

No there’s no indication I’m aware of it was anti-islamist as such. They might’ve done it regardless. The spray painting would have some indication of the motive. Vandalism at any rate.

I wonder what their security was, could be same as a shop or library or something, you’d think there was something in place.

I was wondering when Riotact would get around to posting about this! Apparently the local community have pitched in to help.
