Canberra not good enough for the Australian Ballet

The Canberra Times has the news that the Australian ballet is tired of hurling it’s principals off the tiny Canberra Theatre stage and is refusing to come back until we have a bigger theatre.

However the theatre was not the biggest reason for crossing us off the calendar:

Mr Evans cited the “excessive costs” and poor quality of the Canberra Symphony Orchestra

The CSO hotly denies the charges.

Helen’s not the brightest crayon in the box.

She’ll learn – never bite the hand that feeds you 🙂

In the dead tree CT there was a disclosure at the end that Helen Musa had gone to Melbourne at the expense of the Australian Ballet for their season launch. Didn’t stop her from giving it to them over this though.

This stuff noone sees is subsidised by the taxpayers. Now if it was australian performances i could sort of understand it, but its all foreign art which is being foisted upon us.

A lasting cultural cringe.

I woudl cut the funding to performances of non-australian ballet and then see how long they leap around when punters fund it by buying a ticket.

Probably more a case of P&L. They could either spend the energy coming to canberra or spend the energy going to other more profitable locations.

Maybe the Aust Ballet should put a sock in it: and I don’t mean in their tights either!

I can feel a catfight coming on!
