The ABC explains that Australia has “won” the right to host the soccer Asian Cup in 2015 after no other country wanted a piece of it.
The list of potential venues is:
Sydney’s Olympic stadium, Sydney Football Stadium and Parramatta Stadium, Melbourne’s Docklands and AAMI Park, Brisbane’s Lang Park, Gold Coast’s Skilled Park and Canberra Stadium.
Which will no doubt thrill both of Canberra’s Asian Cup fans.
But before they get their hopes up, the bad news. That list is going to get culled to “four or five selected venues”.
Smart money says the last two are going to get the chop.
UPDATE: Mr Stanhope is celebrating and thinks we’re going to get six group games and a quarter final.
