A website called everydatexpat is running a glowing review of Canberra.

Canberra is one of the most pleasing cities in Australia. It is planned around Lake Burley Griffin and the parliamentary triangle that contain the Parliament House, High Court and the other important buildings.

The city has wonderful places for seeing the sights and is well associated with all the main cities in the world.

It’s unclear if the author is insane, comes from a distant branch of the english speaking family, or is having a laugh.

They appear to have stayed at the Hyatt though, and had such a good time in its environs there was no great need to stray from the parliamentary triangle (except for a trip to Gold Creek).

Anyway, some good quotes in there for tourism marketers!

So because people don’t like to use the current public transport system, we shouldn’t make it easier to access, more efficient, more reliable and with a greater capacity (making it more comfortable) because certainly no one would use it then. What about the iconic trams of Melbourne? their a form of public transport that is arguably pleasant to use.

I think its for real. Which makes me think the author is, as suggested, insane

Canberra is a blight on this nation.

F*ck off then. (Don’t you live in Queanbeyan? Then f*ck off someplace we can’t hear you.) You’ll forgive me if I don’t take advice on culture form somebody whose idea of quality time is crawling through tunnels and abandoned buildings.

An efficient modern light rail system in Canberra would bring about large scale benefits

…he says having just pointed out that people don’t use the public transport we already have, and without giving any evidence that these would be resolved by putting buses on rails. People in big cities don’t use public transport because they like it (ooh, the marvelous odours! The rush hour pressing of the flesh!) – they use it because they have to. New York’s subways aren’t part of its urban charm, and nor are the beggars on the Metro.

It’s all be said before BUT no body is listening.

I want to see the outlandish tree species that encircle ANU and the hotels in which you do not require to be bothered as they are apposite for all type of pockets.

One must read it in a bad Indian accent to fully appreciate the humour of the blog.

Efficient public transport does seem to be the key for ‘livable’ cities of note. It’s certainly a prime variable when publications such as ‘Monocle’ look at a city.

However, i think that a city that is good for families is also something we should be very proud of. Areas such as Kingston and now Dickson and Braddon are becoming more vibrant with more nightlife largely due to a change in teh denisty of those locations from low density to high densit – as houses are replaced by multi-level apartment buildings. Unfortunately, many local ordnances to do with entertainment and noise have not kept pace with teh changing face of those areas with a ‘one rule applies’ across all of Canberra.

Even when public transport is available people dont use it. I knew a person who lived in Kingston and drove to Civic every day – even though the bus was only 100 metres from her residence. She didnt like buses! When i lived in Sth Yarra i never heard anyone say they wouldnt catch the tram because they didnt like it. That seems to be a bus stigma thing.

An efficient modern light rail system in Canberra would bring about large scale benefits not just in public transport, but also in transport oriented development (putting planning control back in the hands of government not developers) and livability.

Funny!
I love Canberra. If you don’t like it, go and live somewhere else!

None of the above; the blog is clearly fake — just check out the other entries randomly advertising dubious Forex software.

Well, ahh, interesting reading…not.
I have been to several of the world’s capital cities, London, Paris, Bern, Brussels, Amsterdam, Copenhagen, Berlin, Kl, Hanoi. All of them outshine Canberra in a second. All of them had culture, excitement, vibrancy, and apart from Hanoi, all had good to brilliant public transport.

Canberra is a blight on this nation. Unexciting, boring, extreemly shitty public transport and not even well set up for the many single workers here. Yes, fine for the public servant famalies, but not good for much else. We don’t even have a light rail here. There was more action, adventure and excitement in a single city block of melbourne than in all of Canberra.

I’d say author is having a good laugh 🙂
