Halloween (aka the best day of the year) is fast approaching and you only have two weeks left to plan your outfits! If you’re stuck for ideas, try one of our fool-proof thrifted costumes below for a stress-free spooky season.

WEDNESDAY ADAMS

Black jumper – $5 Salvos Mitchell
White shirt – $7 Vinnies Belconnen
Black skirt – $7 Salvos Jamison

Who wouldn’t want to be the world’s coolest angsty teenager for a day? Channel your inner petulant child with a super easy black jumper/white shirt/black skirt combo. You probably have most of these ingredients at home already, but if not you’ll easily find something suitable at your local op shop. Whack your hair in a couple of plaits and paste on an expressionless expression for an A+ classic Halloween look.

SEXY SKELETON

Skeleton tee – $2 Vinnies Mitchell
Denim skirt – $7 Salvos Jamison

Some people are just too cool for mainstream stuff like skin and organs and those people are called skeletons. You can usually find something with skulls or bones on it at most op shops, or why not take on an art project and paint bones onto a very flattering skivvy/leggings ensemble? Bonus points for full skeleton face paint or you can take the easy way out and opt for heavy eyeliner, black lipstick and gothy accessories (think chokers, leather cuffs, studded belts, basically anything you can imagine Abby from NCIS wearing).

VAMPIRE

Velvet singlet – $5 Vinnies Dickson
Leather look skirt – $7 Salvos Jamison

Everyone knows that vampires are the sexiest of all monsters ‘cause they never fail to rock a dark and mysterious ensemble. Think all black is boring? Hahahaha THINK AGAIN! Not only is black slimming, it goes with everything and best of all if hides the blood stains of your innocent victims. A true creature of the night appreciates the finer things in life, so make sure you look out for luxe fabrics like velvet, leather and lace. Play around with silhouettes, anything with a plunging neckline, batwing sleeves or even a cape will help ensure you’re the coolest vampire in the coven. Accessorise with a casual splash of blood for that fresh “I just killed a man” look.

ZOMBIE SCHOOLGIRL

School dress – $9 Salvos Belconnen

Zombies deserve cute clothes just like anyone else, and op shops are great for finding cheap items to cut up and create an adorable post-apocalyptic outfit. You could find something in the school section, check out the general costume rack (lobotomised soldier? undead ballerina?) or even just go for a causal off-duty zombie civilian look. Once you’ve chosen your pieces, cut some holes and fray the hems before liberally applying blood and guts and you’re ready to shuffle off in search of delicious, mouth-watering braiiiiiinnnns.

How are you celebrating this Halloween? Got any cute costume ideas?
