Canberra Pursuit this Friday is going to be a thing. A big thing.

The last three weekends of my life have been dominated, somewhat to the chagrin of Goosepig, with getting my bike ready for this Friday’s Canberra Pursuit.

Above you can see Martyo’s picture of the complete Air Raid bicycle (a magnificent piece of kludgework made possible by some serious power tool bodging and the glory of self-tapping screws).

Smarter people than your correspondent have however, been working harder to make this a show you will not soon forget.

If like me you’ve been previously unaware of TAMS Fyshwick Depot let me tell you it is like a trip to the wild west. You won’t believe this space has been hiding out there.

So it’s free, I’m told there will be a bar, and there will never be something exactly like this again.

The show’s from 7.30 to 8.30 this Friday night.

This was a lot of fun. Well done to all involved.

Bjorn Again is on at the same time. Tragic, but the reconstituted band was booked before news of the hacked bikes reached the common folk.

Well, Bjorn Again isn’t actually reconstituted ABBA. I suspect that ersatz is a more appropriate term…:-)

That is a hand cranked air raid siren converted to chain drive.

But wait until you hear Loose Brown’s aeolian wind flutes!

That’s very unique. Nto really my thing, but it is interesting.

Is that an engine above the rear wheel?

There will be many (maybe even 100) bicycles, lots of them making interesting noises. The pretty-awesome Jon Rose is part of this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jon_Rose

It’s pretty much Jon’s show. There will be a free for all with our own bikes at the end though.

That’s a nice portrait of you JB … groovy machine too though I foresee external skid-marks of a whole other magnitude appearing in your future 😉

That is a very fashionable helmet, too…Naughty JB!

And to think when she saw that bike my mother said “What sort of person would want to ride such a thing?”

Memories.

I used to have a home-engineered set of forks like that. Just a bit longer with a smaller front wheel.

B@stard of a thing to ride… significant understeer issues resulting in frequent stoppage. Turn the handlebars too far or to quick and you lose all traction at the front causing the bike to basically fold over on itself.

Looked cool though and got excellent comments anywhere it was ridden.

All choppers are unicycles with a training wheel!
