The Hindustan Times is quite excited that Indian cricket star Irfan Pathan is has popped the question to one Shivangi Dev, a Canberra based accountant:

Irfan, 24, met Shivangi, 22, in Canberra in 2003 when the Indian team was touring Australia and proposed to her when she was on a visit here three years back.

Shivangi, daughter of a diplomat now posted in Spain, promptly said “yes” when Irfan asked whether she would marry him, Irfan’s father Mehbubkhan Pathan told PTI.

“Miya bibi razi to kya karega Kazi” (if the boy and the girl are ready to tie the knot, what can anyone do), he said quickly adding the family has no objection to the marriage…

Irfan’s mother Shamim Banoo is impressed with the simplicity and good nature of Shivangi, who also runs a dancing school in Canberra.

Sadly for the happy couple they’re going to have to hold off on the wedding until Irfan’s elder brother can meet the right woman.

Does this mean he can get a run in the Aussie team??

Bugger the nerdy elder brother. Elope – elope !! They will make a Bollywood movie about it.

Or Virginia could just abolish the older brother custom so Irfan and Shivangi can get jiggy with it.

How very Jane Austen!

The family will be working double-time to find a suitable bride for the older brother, guaranteed.

And what happens if the elder brother doesn’t meet the right woman? Does he marry the wrong one so that his little brother can tie the knot?

Cute story and congrats to them!
