Canberra RSPCA Dog Olympics

The RSPCA Dog Olympics were held yesterday at the Weston Creek RSCPA training grounds. The day was a great success but I felt a twinge of sadness for the poor little orphaned puppies inside who weren’t invited to the party.

Highlights of the day included the doggy shotput, the obstacle course marathon and the rythmic gymnastics. The medal place winners had good representation from all countries and breeds and, surprisingly, the smug border collies did not wipe the field. As the national anthem played before the olympic rings (hula hoops) and proud puppies stood on the podium, I felt a tear in the corner of my eye. Doggiccinos all round, I say.

This is a highly recommended free event next year for anyone who is canine inclined.

The RSPCA are also having Cupcake Day on Monday 18 August to raise funds if anyone wants to join in.

If they weren’t the most difficult dogs in the world to train they’d be much more popular.

What’s that thing which looks like a sphinx?

I am a sucker for a beagle picture!

Doggy Shotput? Is that a contest where you see how far you can lob a Daschund (similar to midget throwing)? Whilst it sounds like an absolute hoot, I didn’t think the RSPCA would condone such an activity.
