Canberra Snubbed by Ashes

By che 15 March 2006 8

Comrade Stanhope has put out this media release on the planned snub of Canberra by the Ashes tour. I know we’re never going to actually get a test match but the little urn of burnt bails is going on tour as well and Canberra along with Tasmania are the only places they’re not going too.

What’s Your opinion?

How come Nero isn’t also upset with FIFA – they’re not bringing the World Cup here either 🙁

If Stanhope’s so keen on ashes why doesn’t he just drive out to Weston Creek? 😉

I said they were burnt bails, what are you talking about rg?

But Thumping one, think of the masses, the thousands, be they cricket fans or not, who would willingly queue for hours to catch a glimpse of this holy grail should it be displayed in, say, the National Convention Centre.

They are being deprived of their human right to glimpse this little icon and our Chief Minister is championing our rights by issue of this Press Release to notify the world of this injustice.

Our Leader is, at least, thinking of the children and imploring those flint hearted cricketing authorities to mend the shattered pieces of their cricketing dreams.

We don’t even have a first class side, why should they come here? The ACT has become a cricketing backwater, for example, even Darwin has held test matches.

Albeit, Tasmania can feel a little peeved.

The Comrade should stop being indignant at the ‘snub’ and work on getting the ACT back into the National competiton although the political will to do so when they were dropped was, to say the least, minimal.

As for his quote about London, that is simply ridiculous.

I doubt the ashes have ever been to Buckinghamshire which is an English minor county team.

(Disclaimer: I’d love to see them, here or in Sydney, who cares)

The Chief Minister must be congratulated for raising this issue of critical importance by issue of a Press Release to bring this onto the national and even international stage.
