Canberra Stadium Security goes High Definition

A Canadian company called Avigilon have put out a media release touting their success in winning the contract to provide our very own Canberra Stadium with a “High Definition (HD) surveillance system to monitor patrons, ensuring improved public safety and overall venue security”

Apparently 11 face recognising cameras will now be scanning the crowd identifying trouble makers.

“Canberra Stadium upgraded from an analog surveillance system that was ineffective and difficult to maintain to the Avigilon HD surveillance system, including 11 Avigilon cameras ranging from four to 16 megapixels. Security officials manage the system using Avigilon Control Center network video management software to instantly identify details necessary for positive identification, leading to faster response times and better overall protection. Canberra Stadium has also leveraged the facial and license plate recognition capabilities of the Avigilon HD surveillance system to achieve positive identification, even at night, something they were previously unable to do.”

Fortunately no mention of automated smuggled beer recognition.

The things you need to do when bidding to host soccer games?

The next step is the 10 cameras that will apparently cover all of EPIC.

HD Cameras will still fail to identify any atmosphere whatsoever at a Brumbies game.

Soccer? its about excluding non compliant T-shirts then.

I think the catalyst was the bloke dancing on the roof at the last Brumbies home game who did a houdini despite dozens of security guards waiting for him to come down.

The problem with the hip flask is..well, the Brumbies start in February…not really single malt weather…(from personal experience)..I was at a fight once when a soccer game broke out…

I would have preferred they update the cameras that were pointing at the game and upgraded the big screen to be HD at the same time.

Nah, the charge too much for soft drinks as well. You need to take your hip flask AND your mixers. or so I have heard….

Smuggled beer?? It’s heaps easier to take a hip flask and then buy softdrinks as a mixer….. or so I heard….

So now we’ll have pictures of people causing trouble, so we can further clog our justice system who will set them free anyway. What a great investment.

Maybe the HD system can also monitor dubioius refereeing decisions in Super 14 and NRL games?

Is it linked to the finger print scanner?

All this because soccer fans get so bored with their sport that they feel necessary to start fights?
