Canberra Times becomes the Fairfax back door

With the internet awash with freetards moaning that they might have to pay to read the SMH or Age online the Canberra Times has announced they can’t convince anyone to pay for what they do.

With the paper awash with content from the rest of the Fairfax stable one can see the rest of Australia soon piling on.

Great for the local website’s numbers. Not so good for local advertisers with no interest in attracting business from Newtown.

The Canberra Morning Herald is pretty much irrelevant these days.

Pity…

I buy the Saturday edition for the poem…

Great news…except for the odd article in the CT about the latest Raider’s late night shenaigans they are pretty well identical anyway..

Well while the Times’ iPad version is beautiful, they continue to ignore the basic fact that 70% of Australian mobile device users are on Android, and their Droid app is abyssmal. Looks like an old-fashioned RSS feed. Haven’t seen ACT figures, but as early adopters you’d think if anything we’d be even higher.

So I’d suggest the “piling in” will remain limited until they catch up with reality.

Perhaps ActewAGL will be kind enough to give the Times the sponsorship dollars it will no longer be sending to Floriade – that would be more presentable than having the money come directly from the ACT Government.
