Canberra Times gassing readers

The past few days I have sat down to breakfast with my freshly delivered Canberra Times only to be overwhelmed by ink and chemical smells.

The Times 2 section of the paper doesn’t smell so bad, but the fumes from the paper’s main books are so awful this morning I had to open a window and yesterday my mother, who was next to me, sneezed and coughed every time I turned page.

Anyone know if they’ve changed their printing formula or something like that? Or have I just been getting some of a bad run of papers?

Or maybe it’s a ploy by CityNews to get people to stop reading the CT?

Someone told me the paper gets like that, the more it is recycled. Eventually, it will spontaneously ignite – with unwelcome results at the breakfast table/dunny/bus or wherever you choose to read it.
Of course, I didn’t believe a word of it – until I saw Granny Kelly across the road go up in flames as she struggled with the crossword.

Cold air whilst printing, hot plastic wrapping equals not too many places to go for the excess liquid, smells, toxins forced out by heating (part of the print curing process), other than to hang around like an ugly bird near the door of the moose at 2am.
