The SMH has an AAP story about Canberra Times staff going out on a wildcat strike over plans to move Newcastle Herald and Illawarra Mercury sub-editors to New Zealand. (That those two mast-heads could be employing 66 subbies has boggled minds here in The Eagle’s Nest).
“Journalists, producers, designers and photographers at The Canberra Times are angered and dismayed at proposals by Fairfax Media to outsource to New Zealand the editorial production of the Newcastle Herald and the Illawarra Mercury,” a spokesperson said.
“As a result, we will stop work until first shift on Friday, 1 June.”
The first shift begins at 6am tomorrow.
That will make tomorrow’s edition a bit of a collector’s item.
